In the video, they had people buying various REAL things with bitcoins. Seemed easy enough. Just display a barcode to your smartphone.

Hopefully, one day they'll buy my bitcoins for more than what I paid for them.

I had never even heard of BTC until I started seeing it on this board. As they become more popular, at least I will feel somewhat educated on them if I hear people talking about them thanks to this board.
I had been thinking about businesses accepting them and have a question. If I was a business owner, why would I want to accept bitcoins as payment when the price flucuates so much? For instance, someone buys something worth $150, or one bitcoin, I accept the payment and 1 hour later my one bitcoin is worth $60. Just does not make sense to me why businesses would accept them.
*DISCLAIMER* I have limited knowledge of BTC, try to avoid the threads on here as much as possible, but do find myself reading in a few of them. My post is not meant to be regarded as a flame.

This is a valid concern.
Until it stabilizes, most businesses use a service, like BitPay, that immediately converts bitcoin into their local fiat.
So, for instance, say an item is priced at $150 but the customer wants to pay in bitcoins, well, they will pay the equivalent in bitcoins however the business will receive $150 in USD (minus the 0.99% fee charged by the payment processor - which is still much less than credit card processors charge).

Bitcoins go up, bitcoins go down. It's a crapshoot.
But this much we know: your dollars will certainly be worth less tomorrow than they do right now

Which I guess begs the question, why go through that trouble? Attract a different type of buyer I guess? I don't know.

some more info on BitPay:
This is a chart from a bitcoin processing company called BitPay. The 0.99% fee is what they charge for handling the software side of the transaction and for depositing the money in your account after the transaction is complete. BitPay allows merchants to be paid in US dollars (if they choose) and for the exchange rate to be secured. In other words, if you sell an item for $5.00 and the user pays in bitcoins then you will get $5.00 (minus the fee) regardless of what the bitcoin exchange rate is that day.

1. Be available to more customers. WordPress actually explicitly started accepting bitcoin so as to open their services up to people in countries that traditional credit cards and payment networks excluded.
2. Lower fees than credit cards and other payment networks.
3. No chargebacks.

When more and more merchants "go through the trouble" of accepting BTC, like those in the OP article, prices will stabilize more and more
... And then conversion of btc through dollars and euro won't really happen so much because ppl will be more inclined to keep their funds in BTC

I don't know man, I guess I am just a simpleton. I will continue to educate myself on it, I just cannot see any use for it in my life, right now anyways.

There really is no "need" for a typical American to use bitcoin at this time.

Do you ever see a need? If so, for what?
