If you actually watch his film and read up on him, he covers wide receivers pretty regularly. And does a good job. He might not be Sharper, but he looks like an upgrade at the safety spot for tackling and coverage.

He looks good enough to be a nickelback and definitely good enough for a safety. And I think his tackling technique is immediately better than almost everyone we have. So sick of dive and arm reach tackles. He wraps very well.

Safety is arguably the least valuable position in today's defense.

So in today's game where QB's are throwing for 300+ per game pretty regularly (much of that coming between the hashes) safety is the least valuable position? Might want to let NFL teams know that then, seeing how 3 were taken in the first round last night.

People who say that safeties--particularly versatile safeties--aren't valuable in today's game aren't paying attention.

Now, your traditional in the box or center field strong or free (respectively) safety isn't as valuable because they will see the field less. Buy a guy who can play the deep third on one down, drop down into the box on another, cover TEs on another, and cover today's slot guys on yet another play are VERY valuable.

That's what Vaccaro brah brings to the table.

That second highlight is literally 50% of him tackling people after 4-10 yrd gains, I don't get it.

I don't like this pick at all, especially when you still have harper's stupid contract. We shall see what happens in rd 2-7.

Might not have harper or his contract in a bit more than a month.

Yeah I'm not certain how it works but I think it would save more in June.

Too much retard in that post..

See 90 yard runs and Vernon Davis slaughtering us in playoffs.

How fast do you want a safety to tackle a guy? You want a Harper replica?

That hilite film was a function of the system.

He runs a 4.6 and is not really explosive coming off the ball. He is not a ball hawk but has played a lot of man to man in college. Don't get me wrong it's an upgrade but I his ceiling isn't very high. In Truffant you could get a cover corner, covert to Safety or play as a Nickel back. Plus he is sub 4.4 with ball skills. In the NFL the trend is converting CBs to Safeties. JMO

4.6 for safety is pretty much the norm. Safeties don't have to be extremely fast but 4.6 is still pretty good speed.

Hence my statement of a bit more than a month.

We save 2 million at that point.

I think harper is staying as a lame duck this year; and getting paid VERY well to do so.

That contract was probably Loomis' biggest blunder imo. I think GW was just in love with him.

That is what that Highlight shows, and no; I don't.

It's not a collection of film; its a HIGHLIGHT; so I would expect to see his best plays of his career thus far. Not a bunch of decent stops. There's one in there where he tackles a qb after he ran over ten yds, and got a first down; and then he gets up acting like he just won the game.

ETA: This guy also tackles like Tebuckey Jones

Oh yes they do and in Ryan's scheme he will be playing a ton of man. Time will tell

ETA: I hope Im wrong about Vaccaro but I thought Truffant was the DB to grab if we were going in that direction

Honestly at that point I don't know if the savings are worth it. that depends on who else gets released, imho

Same here.
Will we have enough quality depth at safety to be able to eat that much cap and move forward without him?

i'm just curious what we'd use the $2M we save for. that unknown variable may not be worth keeping harper around
