are they super reliable? can you do a lot of modifications to them? do they just look cool?

just wondering what makes the average 1911 cost $1200?

this is not a flame thread, i really do want to know. so forgive the ignorance

Cost a ton

Not reliable without more modifications

And only holds 7

Edit- but look good doing it.

Im no expert on 1911s either. I just loved the classic style and the weight in my hand. There are some folks here that will fry u for askin, so good luck to you.

Don't worry - he'll be here in no time. Where's the KR signal?

It's more like a work of art IMO than an ugly arse polymer pistol.

I started a thread inquiring about Glock hate once. This thread will be the Yin to my thread's Yang

As to your question, I've never owned one but I do like the look of them.

Classic American designed weapon with a century of history behind it. That's what's up.

I'm sure he'll be along soon.

But be warned -- he has actual hands-on experience with these weapons. So his opinions won't be limited to what one might glean from from Google and Youtube searches.

Just like any other gun, the more you pay, the higher the chances are that it will be reliable.

The pistol has been around for 100+ years. The supply of aftermarket parts is unbelievable.

do they just look cool?

Yes, they look very cool.

The average 1911 does not cost $1200. You can find many good ones in the $700-800 range.

I bought my first one a few months ago. I have no idea why I waited so long.

Shoot one and you will know. Perfection of design.

Nostalgia.
I want to look like that guy in that movie.
Heirlooms.
I think they're beautiful.
