Doing research for my church finance committee, it appears that "Navigators" will be hired to explain ACA to people when they sign up in October.

Articles say the pay will be $20-45 per hour, and California alone wants to hire 20,000 plus.

We have church members who would like one of these gov'ment jobs. How does one get hired?

I thought churches and other faith-based organizations are going to be exempt from o'trauma care.

I think that there are some faith-based insurance programs that Christians can sign up for, Medi-share is one that I am looking into.

This whole o-drama care is turning into one big pile of crap.

I don't see a way the exchanges will be ready in time for October

We have people at church laid off at Delphi in Clinton (union plant) a few years ago now making $9-12 per hour.

$20-25 jobs in Mississippi would be huge. I think Nissan is paying close to $15, no benefits, no raises since 2006, and you have to work as a temp for Kelly or Temp Staff. You don't actually work for Nissan.

Ouch.

Didn't the state of Mississippi pay Nissan around $370 million? And now Mississippi is wanting $100m in bonds for Nissan. I remember when they were saying the low-end jobs would start at around $20/hr plus benefits.

Mississippi state government must be flush with money.

A Japanese tire plant will be announced by the end of the month at Columbus-West Point. As we do for Nissan & Toyota, we will pay for the plant/infrastructure/wages for 6 months. It could force the shutdown of American-based Cooper Tire in Tupelo.

Did you see the 60 Minutes report in the fall 2011 on the new GE plant we have near Batesville, building jet engines for Boeing Dreamliner. Leslie Stahl did the report. I hit the floor when she asked Jeff Immelt about the $13 per hour wages. There is another new GE plant outside of Hattiesburg. I assume similar wages.

We are Little Mexico.

eta: correct GE info

We are flush with federal money. For every $1 we pay in taxes, Washington sends us $2.

The money will not last for very long. Only 1.3 million in grants are allocated to Louisiana. I can't imagine that Mississippi would have much more to work with.

California is dreaming. There will only be 54,000,000 available from the Feds for grants for the Navagator program.
