My favorite is that Bryan Adams' Summer of 69
quote:

The upbeat nostalgia of this song wasn’t inspired by an actual year, but rather Mr. Adams’ fondness for a certain sexual position

I think about 8 of those are obvious. I don't believe the Bryan Adams one anyways

I started a thread about this a while back.

My example was Third Eye Blind's Semi-charmed Life.

It's super catchy with a post grunge pop beat so everyone just sang it at the top of their lungs thinking it was about how great life was.

It was actually about meth addiction.

ETA: I don't believe the Summer of 69 thing either.

I've always thought "Crash Into Me" had some dirty lyrics, but I just thought I just had a perverted mind. I gues I was right

I know Lennon publicly stated that Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds wasn't about LSD, but I just don't see anyway that song isn't about dropping acid.

“random rhyming nonsense”
I love it when writers admit this, and love it even more when those writers get credited for being a great songwriter because of these songs

That's kind of dirty.

This isn't true. It is merely because it sounds the best in a song.

Summer of 74 No

Summer of 67 No

Summer of 73 No

Summer of 69 YES!

At the end of the song he says "me and my baby in a 69" so yes, it probably is about the sexual position.

Misconception: Sweet love song

I don't know how anyone who even halfway pays attention to the lyrics can draw this conlusion.

I could probably name 15 Tool songs that fit this description perfectly.

It seems you are also mis hearing the lyric.

Its about rehab. Think about what was going on with the band when that was written.

I always thought it was pretty obvious that it was about drug addiction. Not the devil.

I've also been told that there was a real Hotel California in San Diego where the Marines would party.
