My patches will be ripe for the picking in the next week.

I hope all OBers who are interested are ready to forage.

Our dewberries SW of Houston are about a week behind yours. May do some picking this weekend anyway.

Gonna FedEx a bag of 'em to the kids in Alaska. This will be their first year to not pick dewberries (will pick blueberries in Alaska).

I didn't see any dewberries on the edge of the woods by my place
But i found plenty of Mullberry trees with berries ripening. Time to shake trees.

Not where I'm from.

From Wikipedia:

The dewberries are a group of species in the genus Rubus, section Rubus, closely related to the blackberries.

There is a huge patch on I-10 between Prairieville and Highland rd. I saw the patch blooming about a month ago...

Yep. My kids have been waking up the past 4 mornings asking if any more ripened overnight.

Nah.

Blackberries don't have thorns on the runner/briar.

Dewberries have tons of thorns.

Leaf shape is also different.

Dewberries are more wild.

Here is a google image of a BLACKBERRY bush:

See? No thorns.

You sir, have the type of children I can endure.

A direct reflection of yourself.

I dont (knowingly) barter for sex/provocative favors. I'm a little less blunt than that.

This is true.

But you've offered me a car wash in the same fashion, to no avail.
(see trespassing preacher thread).

I reckon I'll keep em. My 3.5 yr old picked a 4" squash this afternoon after I told her not to. She couldn't help it. I made her eat it to teach her a lesson, and dammit if she didnt love it. We had baby squash with supper.
