$305 with a $20 MIR.
on newegg
really good deal for anyone not close to a microcenter.
ETA: the exact same combo at microcenter is $270 plus tax

MicroCenter price about 3 weeks ago.
there's a Microcenter less than 5 minutes from where I work.

think Spec's, but for computer geeks like us, instead of alcohol.
.....errr, you've never been to Spec's either.

So if I have an ATI 7970, are there advantages of getting an AMD chip and board instead of intel?
Posted on 4/22/13 at 4:04 pm to flyAU
if you have a 7970 you should probably get at least the i5 3570k to avoid bottlenecks.
the FX processors actually work better with nVidia cards than AMD cards.

What would be the "on par" with my 7970 instead of aiming for "at least"
Posted on 4/22/13 at 4:14 pm to flyAU
right now i doubt there are many games that utilize the CPU effectively enough for the 3570k to bottleneck. however they are getting better at it so you might consider an i7 3770k.
having said that, if you are currently happy with your setup, i wouldnt do anything right now. Haswell drops in a few months and mid/late 2014 DDR4 will be mainstream.

Every benchmark looks basically the same between the 3770k and the 3570k. With that being said it may change in the future.

Gaming wise there zero need to get a 3770k over a 3570k. The performance is almost similar.
If I lived near a microcenter, though, I would buy one in a heartbeat

He means the 3770k. It is very conceivable that games will start utilizing more cores in the future especially will the ps4 having multiple cores.

No way man, developers need to cater to the Pentium II crowd.

In December, I had to travel on business to a town outside Baltimore. My last evening there, I discovered there was a Microcenter 20 minutes from my hotel. I spent three hours there. It's amazing... Walls of cases, PSUs, Video cards, memory, SSDs, motherboards, CPUs, and even custom water cooling blocks, pumps, radiators, reservoirs, and fittings. Lots of specialty PC tools, gaming mice and keyboards, 1440p korean monitors, etc.
I would be broke and drowning in credit card debt if I lived near a Microcenter or a Fry's.

I'm going to be in Atlanta with my wife for our anniversary just taking in some Braves games and what not. She has already agreed to stop by Microcenter

Warn her, and possibly suggest that she go shop elsewhere for a while. It's not a 30-minute browse-n-leave, like she undoubtedly will think it is.

Seems like a place I could blow thru an entire paycheck and not even regret it.
Kind of glad one isn't here.
