They really should have pushed that interview where the anchors made fun of him. It would have drummed up more buzz for the show.

The problem is everything is so heavily scripted because it seems like it's difficult for him to form sentences on his own.

I'm kind of beginning to think that he's putting on an act of being dumb. He's never been the sharpest tool in the shed, but he seems to be getting worse

Yes.
He is so...less-than-brilliant it is awkward. Just about every girl on the show thought he was super creepy, and all of his friends were exactly like him.
It made me feel bad for him, but it was also kind of hilarious. I will be tuning in.
