What's the best (easily attainable, doesn't have to be something like Walmart, but nothing that you wouldn't find in your average city) sauce, in your opinion? Also, any noodle suggestions?

I'd price shop the sauce and the noodles...cheaper is better....Stay away from the fancy stuff like Prego and Skinner...not worth the extra $$. When do we need to show up for chow?

Equal parts of Better Value sauce, ketchup, and sugar, with extra butter to taste, is my favorite homade sauce...for special eatin's.

Better Value
We aren't blessed with that option on our side of the river.. Will Great Valu work? I normally buy the best Great Valu sauce and sketti I can find and then scrimp and price shop on the fish sticks or canned chicken that I put in the pasta..

I was told by someone that I was a "cheap son of a bitch". That hurt down to my soul. I plowed the deepest and straightest row I could plow. :cryingemot.:

Boss, is that feller asking what is the best tasting average noodle?
I'm getting confused more often as my last years approach.

Batali's sauce brand is pretty good, as is Emeril's. Its about 7 or 8 a jar, but pasta is cheap as chips. DeCecco is a good brand.

I'm partial to the Newman's Own marinara or the Barilla tomato basil. Both are fairly light/thin & fresh tasting compared to the Prego/Ragu/thick arse jarred sauces.

Wasted $$ on a few higher end bottled sauces, like the Rao's stuff at $8/jar. Totally not worth it. Went back to my Newman's marinara for quick meals.

I'm going to give you my spaghetti recipe. I have to admit, i think i make some of the best spaghetti and meat sauce around.

1 pack Spaghetti noodles
2 lbs lean ground meat
Olive Oil
4 roma tomatoes
1 large white onion (Diced)
1 large bellpepper (diced)
3 Jalapenos (diced)
4-6 cloves garlic
1 large can diced tomatoes (Hunt's 28 oz can)
3-4 small cans tomato sauce (Hunt's 8 oz can)
2 tomato sauce cans of water (depending on how thick you want your gravy. Always adjustable)
2-3 cans tomato paste (Hunt's 6 oz. cans)
Italian Seasoning
Kosher Salt
Cracked Black Pepper

1. In a large cast iron pot (or other large pot, i prefer cast iron) pour some olive oil in the bottom of the pot (about 1/8 cup, maybe more) and heat up.
2. Add your fresh whole roma tomatoes and cook on medium high, turning to make sure all sides are somewhat browned slightly.
3. Remove tomatoes dice.
4. Add ground meat and season lightly with slap yo mamma or big easy seasoning. Remove meat. (if a bunch of grease is left behind, drain.)
5. Add onions, jalapenos, and bellpeppers. Cook until soft. Add garlic and cook.
6. Add all ingredients back into pot and bring to a boil, then cover and simmer for 1 hour.
7. Serve on plate with some good noodles and freshly grated parmesan cheese. Not the powdered stuff.

It's simple, easy, and one of my favorite meals to cook. I love cooking 1 pot meals.

ETA: This can feed about 8-10 people.

DeCicco noodles are about the best you can get in the store.

As for the sauce, by a can of whole San Marzano tomatoes (like $1.99) then blend them up to a puree. Brown some garlic, pour the tomato puree in with however you want to season and set it to simmer for 30 minutes. Better than anything out of a jar.

Make your own. It is one of the easiest things to make.

I'll agree with this. Expand it to any of the Newman's or Barilla flavors. I'll also vouch for Emeril's brand.

I prefer to make my own sauce. But sometimes I just want a quick 10 minute meal. Boil some pasta while cooking some mushrooms and ground chicken/beef.

For pasta, I find most of the cheaper/normal prices are all similar. I usually go with Barilla. There are more expensive brands (2-3 times the cost of the normal brands) that are definitely better. More chewy and firm, hold up well. I'll go that route if I'm cooking everything from scratch. I think of the pasta brands I like is Rao's. I buy the penne or the rigatoni.

I don't exactly want cheap canned sauce, just whatever is the best. I'd drop plenty on it if it came highly suggested.
