I've been going back and watching them and they're pretty damn funny.
I think 10 years after Friends and we give it WAY to much credit. HIMYM had some kind of point, something to look forward too. The last few seasons of Friends are definitely not as good

HIMYM having "a point" hurt it more than helped it
Both shows were at their best when they just let their characters be funny, but Friends handled wrapping up the show infinity times better.

HIMYM should have ended 3 or 4 seasons ago. Now they are just prolonging the series and it's getting worse with each episode.
I stopped watching 2 seasons ago. I just got pissed off at how much of a pussy Ted is. Barneys jokes are old. The only tolerable part WAS Jason Segal's character, but he became too much of a pussy himself too. All of the women on the show are unbearable.
Friends was much, much better than this steaming pile of a show, IMO.
However, i am a Seinfeld guy, so that trumps all.

Agreed.
That being said, I really like both HIMYM and Friends. I watched HIMYM the first two seasons, then watched Chuck for its entirety, so I had to go back and catch up on Netflix. The show, up until last year, was really done well. The logical endgame was when Ted met Zoey. They seemed to work well despite their completely different ideologies, but it was the first relationship where I thought Ted was ready to grow up. Then he screwed it up, and its been a tailspin since. Getting back with Victoria, who didn't want to be with him because of his Robin issues but willing to leave her husband at the alter without so much as a discussion? Come on.
But I watch, and I will watch next season, because I truly want to see how it ends. I hope we get to finally see why Ted and this girl make it. Whats different? What makes Ted finally grow up? What is so special about this girl that Lilly, Robin, or Barney don't try to sabotage it?

Season finale is in a couple weeks. But they are doing another season
