Looking at the trailer, the ship he arrives to Earth in is quite a bit bigger than that star thing from the original movies...so it might have a decent amount of stuff packed in there the Kents never messed with.

that the Kyptonian society will be based off of genetic engineering where what your roll in society is based off of what you were engineered to do (whether it be scientist, warriors, government administrator, or whatever). Kal-El parents supposedly are going to decide to have their child naturally so that he can decide for himself what he becomes, which apparently will be a violation of either Kryptonian law, or at the very least, will be looked at as an abomination by some Kryptonians like Zod.
I could see that being the catalyst of the war on Krypton, but who know. But I do think that will be the catalyst of why Zod is after Kal-El

I've heard that as well. Taking a line from the comics over the last few years. I like it. It's catalyst btw for most.

Doesn't Superman 2 follow the origin pretty closely with Zod? Jor-El was behind his capture and imprisonment in the Phantom Zone, so when he got out and found out where Kal-El was, he wanted revenge?

I think it will be a nice twist if it turns out to get true. It definitely adds to the story of Clark sorting out his life and his future.
