I still dont get what all the hate is with always "online". So what. I AM always online. Its hardwired to my xbox and I've never unplugged it from the ether net. Does it really matter?

ETA: Does it really matter to the nonpoors who have discovered the marvels of the interwebz?

i will purchase the PS4 if it has the following

Free online gaming
blu-ray player
netflix
hulu
youtube
HBO GO
ESPN 360
Pandora
Ability to connect my 3 TB external Harddrive with movies to it and play them without having to convert them to a different format.

anything beyond that is just a bonus.

It matters to people who may have spotty connections because they live in rural areas. I can only get shitty DSL that likes to go in and out so if I was unable to even turn on my xbox during one of those times I would be pissed.

I know a lot of people who never use the Internet with their Xbox or ps3. With that said, if it became online only they could easily hook it up to the Internet if they were forced to.

I can't think of one person that would truly not be able to use the system if it was online only. I could see it hurting people in rural areas tho.

Meaning not just hardcore gamers. Sounds like they want to do a lot more casual stuff and make more use of the Move.

Sounds like they still can't come up with an original thought and still copying Nintendo.

Outside of the market issues already meationed, it's over the issue of freedom of choice.

If I want to bring the console somewhere to game, I shouldn't have to worry about there being Internet access for an arbitrary reason.

Maybe in price, but it doesn't appeal to consumers in "the broadest sense".

I don't understand why people are complaining. These games aren't going to be available for PS4 in any way unless they're are re-developed for PS4 architecture. Each PS3 and PSN game was developed for the Cell and RSX, which the PS4 has neither of, and will have to be ported in order to be playable in any form.

Yes. Not having backwards compatibility sucks, I agree completely. They're trying to use Gaikai as that vehicle to bring you previous Playstation stuff.

It's just an unnecessary hassle. With Wi-Fi in every system, it's not as big of a deal. I just don't like DRM in any way, shape, or form. Especially, requiring an internet connection to access the games I've already paid for.

It's just for the "poors" either. When I got my new house, no ISP provided internet until 2.5 months after we moved in. I would have been so pissed if I couldn't even play the games I own on top of no internet and cable.

I remember reading an article that said either 22% or 26% of PS3/360 owners do not have online access.

That's a pretty decent chunk that would only be able to buy a PS4, if the 720 is in fact online only.

Why stop there?

Why not go back a decade further when the Playstation having their controller out for years, but within weeks of the N64 unveil with an analog controller stick, they accounce a redesign containing two of them.

This argument is nothing new.

Hell, Microsoft has brought more innovation than Sony.

Sony introducing Blu-Ray >

I still remember when my couple of xbox fanboy friends were all up on that HD DVD and talking shite about it's going to when and what not, like do you even know what it's about? Had no chance from the get go but all be damned if they didn't go buy that HD DVD thing for the 360.

Half a year later...lol.

The only thing Sony has pushed ARE specs. Aka Blue-ray inclusion.

That isn't gaming console innovation.

Pretty much every Sony platform after the PS was surrounded by discussion of how many polygons it can push rather than what does it bring to the table as a gaming platform.

But thanks for bringing up the random example of fanboys being wrong over a format war...as if that has some thing to do here.

(Not an X-box or Nintendo fanboy either)

Because that was the height of immaturity and ignorance.

Which is taking an idea, but taking it further and improving it (you know, a form of innovation). The Dualshock design (which had rumble which Nintendo lated added with the awful Rumble pack) became a staple for controller that was pre-produced in someway by all until the Wiimote.

In all areas, yes. In gaming, it's not even close. Microsoft has a unified online gaming structure in Xbox Live which was unique to consoles. That's about it.

I could do one for the EyeToy and Kinect too, but what point would I really make.

I haven't played All-Stars, but I hear it supposed to be great.
