espite ratings hardship and real and clear danger of cancellation, Happy Endings may live up to its title even if ABC opts not to order a fourth season. I hear that Sony TV, the leading studio behind the underrated comedy series, has quietly reached out to a couple of networks, including USA Network and NBC, about the possibility of continuing the comedy there if ABC does not renew it. I hear USA, which has been looking to break into the half-hour original series space, has expressed interest and has had discussions about picking up Happy Endings in case of a cancellation by ABC.
If the financials can be worked out, a Happy Endings pickup would be fortuitous for USA, which has been actively developing half-hour comedies and has ordered several pilots but has yet to greenlight a half-hour series. USA had been looking to have an original comedy on tap for the fall premiere of its marquee off-network series Modern Family. Happy Endings would be a suitable companion for Modern Family as it already spent two seasons on ABC paired with the Emmy-winning family comedy. Happy Endings did well behind Modern Family, but its fortunes changed this past fall when it was moved to Tuesday to form a comedy block with Don’t Trust The B—- At Apt. 23 in a crowded comedy hour. Despite strong cult following and critical praise, Happy Endings struggled mightily on Tuesday and was recently relocated to Fridays. ABC brass had been strongly supporting the show from Day 1, but they will likely won’t be able to keep the series on broadcast TV at these ratings levels. In a last-ditch effort, the network recently launched a Save The Show-themed promo campaign for Happy Endings‘ move to Friday. The call to arms didn’t help, with the two back-to-back Friday originals drawing a 0.9/3 and a 0.7/3 in adults 18-49, down 25% and 46% from the show’s last Tuesday airings on January 29.
Happy Endings is in a similar position to the one another cult ABC comedy in its third season, Cougar Town, was in the same time last year. With ABC’s blessing, the series, produced by ABC Studios, relocated to TBS where it has done well, recently earning a fifth-season renewal. Cougar Town‘s success on TBS would likely help Happy Endings, which has a similar limited but very devoted fan base. Like Cougar Town, Happy Endings is headed into the all-important Season 4, which is crucial to a series’ chances for syndication.

for some reason this would fit with ABC perfectly.

While I still watch it and laugh at about every episode, most of the characters are annoying and i could honestly give a shite if the show fell off the earth. All that said, Elisha Cuthbert has never looked hotter and Eliza Coupe is pretty damn cute too.

I hope they move is ABC doesn't pick them up.

haven't watched it much since the move, but its a solid comedy

This is one I'll definitely watch one day.
I remember looking forward to what I thought the pilot episode was, only to realize it was the first episode of season two. I liked it, but didn't really know much about any of the characters, so I stopped recording it and figured I'd just get into it on DVD eventually. Definitely seems like my cup of tea though.

I agree. This is one of those series where I watch just because it is entertaining enough and to watch even if some of the routines are done to death.

I like this show very much and hope they actually do move to a cable network so the censorship birds won't be all over them.

well if they get cancelled i do hope they are picked up elsewhere. we dvr this show and find it amusing.
i see how the characters are annoying and walk the line of likability but i think that's the point.

if you like cougar town, you'll like this show
while the main characters can get annoying, they do a good job of bringing in random side characters that are usually really funny

I love CT more than most. I have some friends that like HE, and their tastes fall in line with mine a good bit.
How many seasons does it have so far?

I think it's in its third season right now. Maybe just the second.
I don't watch it very often, but when I do, I enjoy it. Just not enough to add it to my regular rotation. Don't want to see it get cancelled though.

This is Season 3, but Season 1 was a midseason replacement so only like 10 eps or so.
Very very good show that reminds me of Parks and Recs in that it has really figured out what all of the characters do well and stick to it, especially, Max, Brad, and Alex.
Not saying it's as good as P&R, but it is a consistently funny show that the wife and I find very very entertaining.
Always wonder what New Girl would have been like if Wayons Jr. stayed on that show as Coach cause he is WAY funnier than Winston.
Anyway, definitely hoping TBS or USA decide to pick it up if ABC is stupid once again.

I'm liking the idea of cable channels picking up network shows that they're too stupid to keep. I was kinda worried about Cougar Town once TBS picked it up, but it's been just as good, if not better than it used to be. And hopefully it will get a couple more seasons now that it's not as big of a deal if viewer numbers are lower.

the only downside is you don't get as many episodes with the cable channels, but better than nothing. USA is a good place for Happy Endings, that channel doesn't cancel anything no matter how bad it sucks (Hank Med, the woman sports psychologist, etc)

Yeah I really don't understand why it isn't more common practice.
For a cable network, or even like the CW, they could buy a show that already has a built in audience of a few million viewers that they can build and try to add their own signature demographic to the fold.
Those numbers won't keep a show on one of the big networks, but that should be more numbers those smaller nets get on a regular week night I'd think.

Sorry to bump my own thread, but I'm pumped other people watch it. I think HE gets overlooked a lot.
Also, there's some CougarTown love on the board?? It's also one of my favorites. Bobby Mutha Effin Cobb is the boss

Happy Endings is great, but I agree with the guy who said Wayans Jr on New girl would've been really interesting. He's the funniest character on HE in my opinion, and Winston is the by the weakest link in New Girl. Wayans Jr and Schmidt getting into shenanigans could've been ground breaking

Wayans Jr. made the right choice. HE is better than NG.
