I was an avid D2 fan and played off and on for years and years. Played D3 over the summer and thought it was okay but not as bad as everyone said. I don't play video games during the semester but I was thinking about picking it up again.

Worth it? I have a lvl 60 monk and sorc with shite gear.

No you still have to run the same maps over and over.

I'm pretty sure that is just how ARPG looters go.

To, OP: it is still a grind fest of repetitive farming. The difference is, that you can actually grind and kill things instead of spending all of your time running for your life from elite packs.

Do you think it would've been better if you could've built your own character like in D2 i.e. Dex/Vital etc instead of the game auto allocating it for you?

I am not getting a new game. I largely quit video games in college and havent played once since I stopped playing D3 last summer. This is just something I am going to do for an hour or so every once in a while.

I am fine with repetitive the Diablo series is all about grinding.

Ultimately the best builds would end up posted online and everyone would be putting their points in the same stats for the maximal build.

I think allowing free allocation of skills would generate multiple viable outcomes and more variety, but there would still be a handful of optimal builds that everyone would follow.

and like others have said, it's completely free to play

all the microtransactions are cosmetic and you don't need to buy anything. Even if you've spent no money, you're not at any disadvantage compared to someone who's dropped $1000 on the game.

I thought the game was good enough to deserve money from me, so I spent $20 on stash tabs, although I could have just as easily made another account to mule if I wanted extra stash.

That'll always be the case, and was in D2 as well. But, there was a lot of fun to be had just experimenting with different builds and finding out other ways to play. That diversity isn't in D3 at this time.

As said though, it is a lot better than it was, and they are making good changes with each patch released. Inferno is no longer a flaming wall of "screw you, you shall not pass" so you can actually progress without having to play the AH game for weeks instead.
