Article on Yahoo about Tiger's drop

Woods is facing a potential disqualification stemming from a possible rules violation committed on Friday afternoon. After he struck one of the unluckiest shots in his Masters career, an approach on 15 that hit the flagstick and bounced back into the water, Woods dropped a new ball and began playing again. However, it's how he dropped that new ball that's at issue.
But if he did in fact violate the rules, and there is reasonable (though by no means overwhelming) evidence to suggest he did, Augusta is bound by the rules of play to disqualify him, regardless of the impact on the weekend's telecast and the sport itself

If he were a 14 year old Chinese kid, he would be on an aero plane above the pacific right now...

At this point, can Tiger be disqualified by the Masters officials or does he have to DQ himself?

It looks like the officials are putting it in tigers hands right now. Saying "they don't have enough video evidence"

I personally think this is BS... read the rule...it states "near" it doesn't define how far near is...plus it was a down hill lie...why take a chance of your ball rolling into your first divot...

I just watched the replay. Seems like it should be a non issue. It's pretty damn close

I agree BUT TIger admitted to dropping it farther back to gain a competitive advantage after his round yesterday

This whole thing would be a non issue if Tiger didn't say anything in the interview with Rinaldi. He said he put the ball 2 yards away from his previous spot

Anybody but Tiger, he is gone. And you Tiger apologists know it. But Tiger makes everyone money so it's okay. You people who argue this should be ashamed of yourselves. Rules should apply to the rich and powerful too.

Yea seems like if he keeps his mouth shut he's good. It was more like 2 feet at the most, not 2 yards

The rule says as near as possible. You going to disqualify him for an unclear rule?

Yes. By saying he dropped the ball two yards back in order not to hit the flag again ..
By trying to be a smartass, tiger just burned himself

Yea, no one would protect Phil or Rory in a similar situation. That would never happen.

By him saying he dropped it 2 yards back so he wouldn't hit the flag again was, in fact giving himself a competitive advantage which is against the rules. Plain and simple. He should have taken a stroke penalty and didn't in which case he signed a scorecard with the wrong score and he is disqualified. It's not really that hard.
