Stewart Copeland comes immediately to mind. "Ziggy" Modeliste is such just because he isn't known, by his own choice.

But the all-time champ, to me, has to be Tre Cool, the drummer for Green Day. I hate Green Day, but as I listen to their songs on the radio, I'm forced to conclude that he is the driving force behind the band. I know nothing of their evolution, but no one has inspired my toe-tapping and tooth grinding more than Cool did in the 90's.

The guy from The Dismembement Plan. So underrated I can't recall his name. I think it is like Easley.

ETA: yeah, Joe Easley

Is Stumpy Pete 3 times the drummer of his contemporaries?

Don Brewer, Grand Funk Railroad. He and Mel Schacher, the bass player, were a great rhythm section.

Speaking of Meg White... Had to go to Baltimore last week for work. I knew the Seven Nation Army beginning was always sung by Ravens fans but the damn fans at the Orioles game were doing that shite too. I can't stand that song now.

I was going to say Stewart Copeland before I saw your post. He's awesome to watch in concert.

Although Rolling Stone ranked him the 5th best drummer of all time I don't hear many common folk talk about him too much.

Stewart Copeland is incredible, but he gets a lot of acclaim among drummers/percussionists. Not sure how underrated he really is.

Chris Layton.

I have followed him for a while, but I feel the average person does not even know who he is.
