In terms of quantity, affordability, entertainment, venues, and of course long-term quality of programs. (college and pro)

St. Louis is ahead of both, even without an NBA team.

Sorta of exclusive of each other, can really think of a metro area that has a good college scene. LA is really the only one and maybe atl with GT.

Why do you guys keep forgetting Boston?

quantity
Hard to argue with New York on this one. Two baseball teams. Two basketball teams. Two football teams. Two hockey teams.
quote:
affordability
Well this is obviously relative to the cost of living whereever the team is located.
I'll go out on a limb and say the smaller market teams are more affordable to watch. For example, I moved to Wisconsin a few years back and I can tell you that Brewers and Bucks tickets are really cheap. I've gone a few times even though I don't even live in Mil, but it is easy to do and a good time.

entertainment
Eye of the beholder. Totally subjective.
quote:
venues
I'll throw Houston out there. Very nice baseball stadium. Modern football and basketball venues.

course long-term quality of programs
I mean this fluctuates, I guess. But in modern times, one place comes to mind ....
BOSTON.
Pats, Celtics, Red Sox ... Boston has won a LOT of championships in recent memory. Oh yeah, frick Boston.

I guess it depends on how you define it- New Orleans in the past two years has hosted the Men's Final Four, Woman's Final Four, BCS National Championship game, plus the Sugar Bowls, New Orleans Bowls, Bayou Classic, conference tourneys.

And Boston should be 2nd on the list. Way more fanatic than Chicago fans.

I'll defend Houston
NBA, MLB, NFL, and MLS
cheapest major metro area in the US by a loooong shot
Decent enough here, it will fall behind cities like NY, LA, and Chicago.
All 4 venues are relatively new, Minute Maid is the oldest at about 15 years or so?
Texans, expansion team turning the corner
Astros, awful no but was one of the better teams from the 90's and 2000's
Rockets, not much outside of the back2back
Dynamo, 4 MLS cup appearances 2 championships

Agreed. The Cubs are essentially a novelty.

Denver belongs in the discussion, and seems to have been overlooked by everyone. They sell a whole lot of tickets in all of their sports.

Rockets have always been a solid team since the back 2 back. They have been to the playoffs a bunch, and are back in the playoffs this year.
Rockets have usually been solid.
