I heard about makers wanting to lower there alcohol percentage and the twitter campaign that helped reverse that decision a few weeks ago. Well, i noticed at the store yesterday there were some bottles of 42% next to bottles of 45%. Did they already start producing the 42 and are going to sell it out before the go back to 45%? could the 42% bottles be considered collector items?

They had already produced a lot when they made the announcement. It won't be a collector's item, they bottled a ton of them.

A momento of a company shitting on the quality of their product to maximize revenue?
Can I ask you if the 42 was cheaper given is .66% watered down?

quote:No, that would be when they undercut the aging process. That's a difference one can taste, unlike the 42% versus 45%.

None of the Maker's loyalists seem to give a shite that it's barely aged, though. That happened some time ago.

i still havent figured out why so many people think this will be some valuable collectors item. it's just watered down bourbon that isnt that good to begin with

I never could find anything that said how many bottles of the watered down bourbon was actually released, but I believe it was enough to where it won't be worth much, other than as a pop culture reference, like Crystal Pepsi and New Coke. Neither of these are worth much from a collectors standpoint, but people might talk about the time that Maker's watered down their bourbon forever.
That said, I have a bottle (a pint or a half a fifth), and it's stored right next to my "limited edition" Absolut Orleans that was sold right after Katrina. I'll probably add one of my "limited edition" Abita SOS bottles to the collection as well.

All bourbon, unless cask strength (and it will be labeled cask strength) is watered down to achieve the desired alcohol content. This is probably common knowledge here though.

Yea, I'm still getting it in from my distributor.
