The Untouchables: Movie where the music doesn't fit the setting/story

Really good movie with Costner, DeNiro, Connery, Andy Garcia, etc. Very dramatic with a lot of good lines like "Never bring a knife to a gunfight" etc.

I was watching it last night and enjoying it, but I noticed that the Score was terrible. It was 80's style music mixed with 20's-30's effects. It made so many scenes just feel wrong. Obviously, the opera music when Connery was dragging his bloody body across his floor was good, but in many other places it was a complete miss.

Anyone ever think that? Any other examples of where a Score almost ruins a movie that is otherwise pretty great?

Well to start, it wasn't a good movie.

I disagree. It was a good movie. It had a good story, acting, etc. For the time, I think it did a good job, although it is rather dated now.

But, I think that the score had something to do with that.

Never understand the appeal of this movie. Costner is on par with Paul walker in terms of acting ability. Deniro is miscast, the dialogue sucks. Oh wait it has sean connery...great movie!

Kevin Costner is like the Michael Bolton of the acting world.

What was Costner's best moment? Id have to say Dances with Wolves.

Please. The dialogue is some of the best. The baseball scene, put two of his in the morgue speech, and the train station "you got him?" scene are all classic.

Anyway, great movie but I don't think the score is all that out of place. I think it fits rather well.

Man its funny you say this. I watched this movie over the wknd and thought the exact same thing

No, the movie is not cinematic greatness, but the score is epic shitty. That off key trombone that keeps blowing in the middle of certain transition scenes is enough to hit mute over. TERRIBLE

Uh no. You don't call an Ennio Morricone score bad or dated. I thought it was a great fit.

I feel like this is a troll thread.

Attacks on Ennio Morricone and comparing Costner to Michael Bolton.

Hyperbole much?

Yeah, Costner sucks for the most part. He's been in some good movies early on though. I'd say Bull Durham and Silverado are his best, followed by The Untouchables, a Perfect world, and Field of Dreams, though not because of him for any of those.

Never underestimate the lack of taste or ability to show massive overreaction on these boards.

Not sure how this part sucked, I always found the music here pretty memorable.

That is just the style of David Mamet. I forgot he wrote Untouchables.

Kudos to you nitwits. Attacking Mamet, Morrincone and Costner.

All 3 with fantastic careers and great movies under their belts.

No ones attacking him. He's a pretty bad actor. Truth.
