didn't LSU have an undefeated regular season and an appearance in the BCS title game just two years ago?

Yeah, and LSU fricked up that game and now it's a point of no return for these types of threads....

Good post but LSU is not the team to beat... Next year we will be though!

LSU has to beat Bama. Bama has proven that even with a loss to LSU or Texas A&M and they can still be in the national championship. So Bama is the team to beat. Bama's schedule and media love promotes them while LSU has a pretty tough schedule.
This post is the most accurate, minues one glaring mistake:
LSU has to beat Bama TWICE.
The more difficult schedule thing is by design.
Can LSU do it? History says no.
Bama, on the other hand, has NO PROBLEM beating LSU once, especially when given two chances. LSU's problem, of course, is that if they lose the first game against Bama, they are out of the running. Bama losing the first game gives them extra time off to prepare for the rematch.
Welcome to the farce that is CFB! Enjoy!

Things are no even in this series by a long shot.
I wonder if we had played the Bama east teams since 08 and they had played our east schedule how things might have worked out.
Oh well, you play the SEC schedule the SEC office gives you, huh. They have no bias.

Do you really believe our returning QB somehow trumps theirs who won back to back BCS titles? Really?

Or maybe Les is a top 5 coach but Saban is the best coach in the country. That's why Les is doing good but Saban is winning 3 of 4 National Titles. That's no disrespect to Les. He is a damn good coach. He is in the right place but the wrong time in history.
Disagree. Saban is the best coach, but les aint too far behind. Saban didnt do this well at LSU. His teams were consistently some of the most penalized teams in the sec.aa lot has to do with the school hes at and the no calls and easy schedule they get. Also located dead in the middle of sec country. Tuscaloosa isnt a far drive from any of the southern states. Yeah we are closer to texas, but they are closer to florida and Georgie. Two of the most talent rich states in the country. Saban also has about 10 more years of coaching experience over Miles.
Again we lose in tuscalossa we dont get the rematch. We lose to uga, we may have not made it, i think we would have unless it was a blow out though.
They get preferential treatment due to their history

LSU is still the team to beat
Twice a year every year 80% of the time
Les is what he is and Saban he ain't
Also there was never a time when Les could do no wrong.
Les has had too many wins over too many years to say he's just lucky, but the other side of that coin is that there's now too much contrary evidence to attempt to claim he's some kind of amazing coach.

LSU is neither “still" or "the team to beat." Maybe the Rant would do better to have a separate category for “cheerleading.” Obviously, someone doesn’t notice the “elephant" in the kitchen.
But what are the facts but that LSU has a lot to prove this year. Are they so talent-laden that there wont be a drop-off in the defense? And will they ever pull themselves out of being ranked in the lower end of offensive statistics?

It's just April, still baseball season. Bregman may be the best freshman to set foot on the diamond at the Box, Katz is the SEC leader in HR's and RBI's, and Raph is still raphing.
Repost this in August. Thanks.

Remember when CLM was humorously noted as having a pact w the Devil b/c of all the incredibly "good" things happening to the LSU football program:
It's silly to think there isn't an enormous amount of luck involved to win a national championship.
LSU was unlucky in 2011. Tragic plane crash involving OK state before a loss to Iowa State that allowed bama to play "the mulligan" - even though they still shouldn't have.
Even so a better record, won the SEC, and a much more impressive body of work than bama.
And 2012. holy crap. The sh!tstorm!!!
All the injuries.
On the opposite side.
Bama needed an extremely improbably 80 yard drive on a team who hadn't allowed hardly anything the second half.
A boneheaded "non-timeout" by Richt to seal the SEC championship.
Oregon and Kansas state losing to far inferior competitors in the last weeks to leapfrog.
and Not to mention Terrelle Pryor selling his pants on ebay so that it wasn't Ohio State vs. ND in the championship game.
in the aspects of talent, recruiting, and (especially with the addition of Cameron) coaching the difference has been null.
Just time for a little more of that Tiger magic.

I think Alabama has nowhere to go but down. Their new AD sounds like he has Alzheimer's, Saban's got no new conquest to motivate him and his players. You can't stay on top of the mountain forever. LSU has been the trend setter and standard bearer in the SEC the last 13 years or so. I like our future.

Yep, but you have to count LSU's great luck too if you are going to play this game.
We had some amazing luck with having some good teams lose to crappy teams to allow us to win our last two championships.

I like the question because while LSU does reload with talented players,we don't have the have the crystal in the trophy case to back up the expectations. Can the tigers defence field the dominant group we're use to seeing after losing so many players to the draft? Can Mett step up and deliver the goods? Do the tigers finally stretch the field vertically with the passing game? I believe we do pass these tests. we better because I get sick looking at this year's Alabama schedule. How weak is that!
