I really like this kid at the top of the order. He seems to have a pretty good eye, and is comfortable against both righties and lefties. And I love how he practically stands over the plate...which will really bother the lefties. I can see him gettIng a number of HBPs..and I'm sure he is fine with that.

And as far as his defense in RF...all he has to do is yell "I don't see it"...and Laird will come over and make the play

Yea. I respect players that stay in and take one on the elbow. To me it shows a "team player" attitude.

I agree. I thought Sciambra was finally the lead off answer at the beginning of the year, but McMullen has stepped up. Is he a soph or a junior?

Junior. He's a JC transfer first year player from Delgado JC.

I think he was the JC player of the year last season at Delgado.

Higgins was a beast everywhere he went! He jacked HR's, too.

McMullen is solid there that's for sure.

That's his best attribute right there. Gives the Tigers a consistent threat at the top of the order, regardless of who is on the mound.

Probably not as much power as Danny but the bats may be a factor.

I think the bats make the difference. I heard McMullen has more power than people would think.

If you're willing to crowd the plate and keep taking the licks then by all means, leadoff you will

I am comfortable with McMullen, too. I heard good things from a couple of Delgado parents, so I am not surprised that he has stepped in and performed well.

Agreed.

I love this...both he and Laird hit lefties almost as good as righties. Tough to find in a young player these days. It also doesn't put a hole in the top of the lineup just because there's a lefty on the bump.

Whatever gets him on base works for me. Not alot to go off of other than this weekend, but he appears to have made a strong claim for full time duty after the Kentucky series. This weekend against Arkansas will be the make or break for him at the top.

What I like the most from him is that the ball really jumps off his bat. Even his outs were hit hard this weekend. My only knock, if any, is he seems to put the ball in the air quite a bit.

You and everybody on this entire board thought this. I am not ready to give up on Schiambre yet. He still has plenty of baseball to play. What I couldn't figure out is why he was getting so much hype for being a mid .200 hitter?

Probably because his OBP is .430, which is very good, especially for a lead-off hitter. He just needs to cut down on his strike outs and make more contact.

He's got 21 AB in conference play so far this season, and is batting .381 with a .619 slugging percentage, and a .548 OBP. So far, not too bad.
