I use a solar powered electric fence around my garden...with a special "twist". I stretch two strands of electric fence wire around the garden (first wire about 15 inches off the ground with the second about 30 inches off the ground). Nothing special about this arrangement because it won't keep the deer out, but my special "twist" is a spoonful of peanut butter placed in the middle of a palm size piece of regular aluminum foil which is then folded over the top fencing wire with the peanut butter side "down". Peanut butter won't spoil, rain won't wash it off and most importantly, deer absolutely go nuts over peanut butter and they will stop to smell and try to eat the peanut butter baited foil. And aluminum foil is an excellent conductor of electricity. Deer won't get past the aluminum foil to get into the garden. Place these peanut butter baited foil strips on the top wire about 8 feet apart. They'll last all season and your garden will be deer proofed. I've been doing this for years now and I have actually watched deer pick at the grass on the outside of the electric fence with mature green beans only two feet away.

Yeah, I tried that, too. And it worked very well, but after 24 hours I started to get a little sleepy... In two nights I killed 11 of these pests with a .22. But I ain't got the time or the energy to stand guard 24/7. Had to find a better way.

Heavy test fishing line around the perimeter. Supposedly it scares them off because they can't see it.

If you're against outlawing, I suggest mothballs.

I could put a stand up there. That usually works to keep deer away
