A spokesman from the Coast Guard says Friday a vessel and several barges collided with the Melville Bridge on the Atchafalaya River. Terral River Service, a bulk material handling and river transportation service company located in Lake Providence, Louisiana, owns the vessel.
There were some reports that the main channel span was closed to river traffic, but a Coast Guard spokesman says it has not. However, there are height restrictions.
Terral River Service is waiting for equipment to do some repairs before they can clear their vessel.
