We have about 2 mill in cap space as of the last check, and our draft picks if everything remains unchanged will command about $3.6 (figure based off of someone who did the math a while back, can't find the specific thread. Think it was Thrillho or Bduhon). I'm sure the FO can work it out. But, is there anyone that we may draft that would warrant a release of a veteran on Defense to free up some more cap space to maybe bring in another tackle, wr, d-lineman, lb etc. in a month or two?

I'm just putting the order of who would garner the most savings after the dead money hit (per overthecap), not whether or not I think they should or shouldn't be cut:

Cap spaced for THIS YEAR if released
1. Harper- $3.6 mill
2. Jenkins- $2.51 mill
3. Smith- $1.758 mill
4. Greer- $1.45 mill
5. Vilma- $1.2 mill
We'd actually lose 646k to cut Pat Rob

I know that the remaining FA's will very soon be in desperation mode and have to take whatever is available, especially after the draft. Blues' list of available players for reference FA's still out there

I feel like despite restructuring Smith could be one to go if we get a draft a solid DE, and someone like Abraham or Freeney is still around in FA. He still has a disastrous cap situation for 2014 too, and it would free up over $11 mill for 2014 if he's gone.

Anyone else? Hard to think everyone will end up on the 52 man roster if our draft is as defensively heavy as many hope.

Harper is so bad I'd pay $3.6 mil for him NOT to be on our team

I've said a few times before on here, so forgive me for being repetitive, but I could see Strief in thr category
Especially if we draft some one like Jordan Mills, and Brown, andmHarris are both healthy and ready to go. His contract is for about 2.5mil with very little dead money (about 250k), and was absolutely terrible last year.

Mr. Madison, what you've just said ... is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul...

I thought about including Strief for the reasons you mentioned, and it's a possibility especially if we try to pick up someone like Clabo, McKinnie, etc. Brown could stay at right, and Marcel Jones etc. could also compete/backup. We saw last year how important depth was though.

The world was changing and the puppy was getting bigger. So, you see, the puppy was like industry, in that, they were both lost in the woods, and nobody, especially the little boy "society" knew where to find them. Except that the puppy was a dog. But the industry, my friends, that was a revolution. KNIBB HIGH FOOTBALL RULES!

I wouldn't mind seeing Strief get cut one bit. He gets beat way too often on the edge. Very slow footwork.

Profootball focus grade:
Strief: -1.5 grade. Allowed 6 sacks and 29 pressures

(the others fwiw)

Evans: 18.6 grade Allowed NO sacks and 19 pressures
De La Puente: 23.0 grade. Allowed 2 sacks and 14 pressures
Grubbs: 19.2 grade. Allowed 3 sacks and 20 pressures

Bushrod: - 1.5 grade. Allowed 4 sacks and 54 pressures

10 sacks and 83 pressures from our OT's... That is nuts

Edit: the sack total would probably be doubled or tripled if Brees wasn't so nimble in the pocket

Exactly. We have too many options at RT, and holes at other spots, with a lack of cap space and draft picks to fill them, to justify paying ZS $2.5 mil.

Exactly why I'm advocating drafting a top 3 LT. That's a ton of pressures from the blindside.

Well we know we can't afford to trade up, and Joeckel, Fisher, or Johnson won't be around at 15 so......

I doubt they release Strief since we are already on thin ice at tackle going into the draft. And that is a position that takes some time to develop. I see it being someone like Smith, maybe Harper.

This reminds me of a story I heard called the Puppy who lost his way.

Whoa. The part in the story I don't like is that the little boy gave up looking for the puppy after an hour. He didn't put posters up or anything he just sat on the porch like a goon. You got a pet. You got a responsibility! If your dog is lost, you don't look for an hour then call it quits you get your arse out there and you find that frickin dog!
