You can point out flaws in every player, so I don't see your point

Exactly. I love how some people think we should have 5 LeBrons starting for us

Jason Smith means Anderson is expendable?

is one of the highest paid bench players in the league.

He's a bench player the way Ginobili is and Harden was on OKC. He's playing 30+ mpg if healthy.

bad defender

Has to on this team

can't play with the 3rd guy

Maybe. More that he can't beat bigger defenders- Demare Carroll ate him up in the 4th last night.

You deal Vasquez now not because he can't play. But because his value is at it's peak, he probably isn't the long term answer at pg, and he is the best available asset other than cap space on the roster. Even then, you don't ship him out for a bag of basketballs.

Actually a great player, but is massively injury prone and is way overpaid

True so far.

Plus now it is out in the open that he doesn't get along with management..

Meh. Coaches and players get into arguments fairly often. We'll see what happens, but it's a stretch to say they don't get along because they had an argument on the sideline during a game at the end of a miserable season.

I'd love to hear how you would improve it

Dangle Lopez, Vasquez, and cap space as trade bait for a team looking to dump salary. Need wing and ball handling help.

See what the market is for Gordon.

Draft BPA- hopefully Noel or Porter reach the Pelicans. Try and get back into the end of the first round of the draft- buy a pick, deal someone- and get more help on a rookie deal.

Look at guys mid tier guys in FA. The big splash is most likely coming via trade. FA will be for depth and complements.

If they do go after a big fish, they need to keep the salary movable. The team won't be competing for much more than a playoff spot over the next 2 years: don't blow the load on a quick fix because it aint happening unless LeBron is coming to town.

Let me set this up and let me know if I'm way off base. The Kings call this summer and want to dump Thornton. They offer him straight up for Henry, cause they want to dump payroll. The Pelicans have the space, so they pick him up to back up Gordon. Is that a good deal?

I'm thinking you will say no, because we already have a highly paid SG. Also, Thornton is a subpar defender and really can only play SG. So, how is that different from having Anderson? Anderson can only play one position (PF), he's a back up and all he does is play offense.

brmark70816 . . .

I wouldn't call anyone other than AD "untouchable". But Anderson, Roberts, Vasquez, Smith, Gordon, etc, can be pieces of a very good team in one way or another. You don't deal them just to deal them. You need a plan that's realistic.

No doubt. Honestly, I don't think the team will ever do anything I come up with. They are too cautious and scared to make moves. I just don't get how sacred guys think some of these players are. They might be good pieces, but most of them are role players and bench players. I've never seen a team build a strong bench first. You need stars and great players first. You can find those type of guys anytime.. bench players I mean..

But the opportunities have to actually be there. Not "what ifs". I don't think management will be shy about making moves (they haven't had many chances to date). But we need to make moves that make sense beyond a big splash that just locks you into a 6-8 seed long term.

I see your point and I agree bringing Thornton on with Gordon here would be dumb.

But Davis can play more than one position and just the threat of Anderson is vital to the offense (edit- his skills let Davis be Davis on offense). Since the All-Star Break, they are pretty much even in Net Efficiency Rating LINK

Very small sample size, but the potential is there.

He and Davis don't have to play together all the time- just that they can when the team needs their best 5. The Spurs haven't always played Parker/Ginobili (averaged about 17 mpg together since 2007)

If you project Davis to play some center, you could run out a Gordon/Davis/Anderson trio. Fill in the blanks with a new pg (let's say they deal for Bledsoe) and new 3 (how about Porter) and you have the makings of a good and versatile crunch time 5.

With that said, he isn't untouchable. If they get a good offer, they shouldn't hesitate to pull the trigger. And I agree that sometimes we get too attached to guys on the team.

Exactly why I don't want Bledsoe

What "what ifs" do Bledsoe bring?

He's proven to be a starting caliber PG as well as one of the best on ball defenders in the league

more consistency on offense in a larger sample and better outside shooting

A great offensive game overrated for a PG. Even so, Bledsoe's game isn't even that bad. He does the little things well that matter to me. Plays defense, rebounds, block shots, pass.

In the 8 games which he logged 30-39 minutes

14 PPG
6 APG
5 RPG
2 SPG
1 BPG

Granted he shot 41% from the field in those 8 games. But he's only 23 and his offensive game has improved every year. I really like watching him play and I think he would be good for this young team. Plus he's familiar w EG, which would hopefully benefit both players.

And if the hornets make a play for him and have to take deandre Jordan, than the posters from this board all win. One groups gets the high priced center they want, one group gets a shitty center that will play 20mpg.
