Steven Goff @SoccerInsider
Official: 2013 Gold Cup winner will play 2015 GC winner in playoff for berth in 2017 Confederations Cup #concacaf

Does that change our roster set up any?

Probably not, but it makes the 2013 tournament mean something.

@GrantWahl: Klinsmann indicated today it was unlikely US A-team starters would be at Gold Cup, but may see some A-team reserves.

There you go.

Is there a reason why we shouldn't use our A-team? The more games they play together the better, right? Especially with WC only a year away.

Luckily Mexico will be sending their best guys the the Confed. Cup so they will have their B team most likely

You could make that case for 2015, perhaps. European players wind down club season in May, have two friendlies in late May, two(?) qualifiers in June, and then report back to their clubs in late July to prepare for the upcoming season. Straight into club season/end of qualifying/Pre WC games/WC.... Right back into 2014-15 club season.

It's a bit much for those guys, and you're asking for injuries.

It's even worse for MLS guys.

"Yeah, Bruce. It's Jurgen. I need Omar and Landon from May 20th - June 20th and the first three weeks of July, and then for a week again in August, September and October. Cool? Oh, and send me Sean Franklin for a game and Todd Dunivant for a game."

This, but actually if the special 2016 Copa America that is gonna be hosted in the US actually happens, I doubt we see our A-team in 2015. Because that would be 3 straight years of international tournaments (14 WC, 15 GC, 16 CA) then if we advance to the Confed. Cup in 17 there is that, then 18 WC.

The team shouldn't have any other international matches in the summer of 2015 (other than friendlies), so that shouldn't come into play.

Key word:

other

The team has no other international obligations, other than the GC in 2015... not even qualifiers. No excuses for NOT bringing the A squad, really.
