Sounds about right. Monaco´s got the pearl, Falcao. Maybe Chelsea´s still in the running, but I don´t think so (for Cavani).

PSG is the best place he could go. I don´t think he´d do well in La Liga, or the Premiere, in spite of both being very different.

The pace and lack of quality linkage would hurt him in England, and I don´t think there will be that many garbage goal opportunities in Spain to warrant such a price tag.

Of course, I may be wrong.

Napoli turned down the €57 million Chelsea offer stating Cavani was not for sale for anything under his €63 million buyout clause.

Seems PSG are willing to at least meet that price and imagine they're paying Cavani a pretty absurd salary --like with Thiago Silva, Ibra, et al--to convince him to accept.

Not sure how many players are really worth these kind of prices but Cavani is a lot better than you give him credit for, Dandy, and success scoring in Serie A more than translates to anywhere else.

I never said he wasn´t good, I´m saying, with his style of play, he won´t amortize such a huge investment, in either of the two league scenarios I referred to.

ETA He´s better than Higuaín on the ball, somewhat, but thrives on poacher type goals. Not tap ins, but furbo stuff. In Spain, he won´t be expertly marked, but there will be a lot of legs between him and goal.

In England, there´s not much rebound play, and I don´t see him getting the ball much, and expertly finishing at a high percentage on counters.

Again, to amortize €60M or whatever they´re asking.

He´s no Falcao, IMHO.

There's no doubt he is a very good player, but he is not one I would spend 50m+ on. At that price I either want a pure #9 or an extremely dynamic player.

Cavani really isn't either. He finds the net, but its rarely pretty.

personally, I love Chelsea continuing to whiff on striker targets. unless they try and pry Ibra away if PSG feels they don't need both, it doesn't seem like any top strikers are available, outside of Beowulf who we'd never sell to a rival.

maybe they make a godfather offer to Lewa?

They should have enough strikers with Ba, Torres, and Lukaku. With the dearth of quality strikers available this window, their best option might be to wait. I feel that Lukaku is ready to lead the line in a big way.

Honestly I'd prefer lewandowski to cavani given equal prices

So especially with one costing half as much

they have enough numerically, but i don't know if any of those are good enough to get them a title win. lukaku is very exciting though. maybe he's ready.

have to disagree with you on dearth of quality strikers available this window. lots of quality strikers have moved. more than I can remember in one window. they've just whiffed on their targets so far. Jovetic would be interesting but not sure stylistically he is what they need.

jumbeaux, i prefer lewa too, but he seems to have his heart set on Bayern.

Lukaku is close. We'll see how it goes.

With a midfield as good as theirs, they really don't create a ton of chances statistically. It's not a huge surprise that their strikers have struggled to score in the Prem.

Man they should have kept Sturridge. Chasing Benteke also should be on their list.

To me, Cavani seems better in every single aspect of his game than Lewandowski (somewhat better finisher though both are elite, better passer, much better at hold up play and immensely better athletically and effort wise on defense winning balls back and starting counters.

While some of this difference in quality is revealed in the comparable offers for both players, I do certainly agree that Cavani's price is a bit inflated and Lewandowski is a much better bargain.

The reason for the price is simply that Cavani wasn't leaving Napoli unless Napoli made a killing on the transfer out of stated reverence to the fans that had supported him.

Cavani publicly sought and embraced that crazy €63 million buyout when De Laurentiis would have agreed to much less as he had little other choice.

I wish more players would stick with clubs the level of Napoli as it would just be better for the overall interest and competitiveness of the sport. However, since that seems way too much to ask, I do appreciate the gesture of at least sticking it to the few big guys financially.

I disagree entirely and Napoli is probably the club I watch the most of outside of the Prem. I have also watched nearly every Uruguay match because of Suarez.

Lewandowski > Cavani in terms of "deal" and overall play imo.

I really have no idea why nobody has thrown big numbers at both bvb and lewa to see if anything sticks

I think a couple have. Just read a quote today from Klopp that says yet again Lewandowski will play for Bayern next season.
