I remember reading a stat from one of the world cups that had Mertesacker as one of the fasted sprinters for CBs at the cup.

I don't really think you need to drop back far either if you're not playing an offsides trap. Maybe having one of the center backs always press high is a good way to ensure that they aren't fricking up their positioning. The thing pressing gives you is a lot of options when you have the ball. Bayern kept the ball more than every team not named Barcelona in Europe. You can play attractive soccer this way, but you need everyone to buy in. Hell, even Robben was defending his arse off.

In the Bayern games I watched this is what stood out to me the most.

he may have top speed, but the acceleration is brutal. can't catch up unless it's a considerable distance.

Those things must be way off, they also claimed J. Hernandez was the fastest player at the WC.

Yep. He was outrun fairly easily by Welbeck last year versus Man U, and was outrun this season by Michu. He has no acceleration, as you would expect from a man as lanky as he is.

Poldi has a bit of a rep in Germany for being rather dim witted.

What the hell is Bayern going to do with all these midfielders and support strikers?

Yeah Swansea was all over him and looking good until Liverpool showed interest and he immediately said thanks but no thanks. Don't really blame him but I do hope that Suarez bites him

guess Milan's prez not ruling out Stephan El Shaarawy being sold has led to a ton of rumors...latest is that Arsenal are interested for £32m. would imagine Man City would try and beat us, though Cavani may be going there. i would absolutely be for Arsenal attempting for that move.

Bayern pressed with no offsides trap, which is pretty different than most pressing teams. I think that cuts down on a lot of individual mistakes from defenders not stepping or stepping when they shouldn't.

It would be remiss to not mention how important Neuer is here too. Not sure how many teams have a keeper that would be as comfortable coming out as he is.

You're just upset because people are saying he's better than Casillas who can't even hold down a starting job.

He´s still got brainfarts and gets beat on the near post too frequently.

He´s almost there, however (to being best in world).

I´d still take Valdés over him.
