And all of the child actors went on to have pretty successful careers. Maybe not great, but successful.

Of course River died young, but he was doing really well at the time.

Feldman had a great run in his twenties before fading. Now, I think he's doing production work.

O'Connell married Rebecca Romijn. So he wins at life and is an inspiration to fat kids everywhere.

Wheaton had his Star Trek and and Toy Soldiers days, but he's gone on to publishing and producing. He and Felicia Day are creating their own little web empire with Geek and Sundry. I fricking love his show Tabletop...cracks me up and always introduces me to new games like Munchkin and Ticket to Ride.

A lot of people say "wow, didn't realize that was Will Wheaton." But O'Connell was easily the most "holy shite, that was him?" Guy ever.

I like shows that have a narrator.
Richard Dreyfus was perfect in it.

One of my favorites growing up. Always thought it was cool that it was an adaptation of a Steven King short story.

Stephen King movies tend to suck without one.

Pertty decent acting by all the young ones, especially Phoenix and Sutherland.

Shawshank and The Apt Pupil also came from the same collection of short stories. Pretty amazing production for one little book.

I know this may be considered sacrilege but I thought the pie eating contest/barforama story detracted from the movie. It was just so different in tone from the rest of the flick.

Have always thought the same thing. I would classify as sentimemtally great, but not a great movie, per se (if that makes sense?).

For me personally, yes. I constantly hung out with 3 other kids in my neighborhood (in Zachary, LA) all through the 80's and we did alot of the same things those kids did in that movie other than look for a dead kid. Summers were spent building forts, stealing money from our parents to rent Rad and Faces of Death with 3 liters of Dr. Pepper and cool ranch Doritos, riding our bikes too far away from home just to play on a rope swing into a creek for the day....just being small town LA kids.

The first time I watched it I was glued to the TV and since then I never pass up an opportunity to watch it. I was 13 when I watched the movie and to this day, I have never been so touched by a movie as the first time I watched Stand By Me.

For the small town kids like myself, it's truly the best "coming of age" movie ever made. However, people that grew up in a big city will probably not appreciate this movie as much.

Nah. I am not on the bandwagon. Never cared much for the movie. Sowwy.
