Deerhunter fans,

1. Anyone going to the show at One Eyed Jacks on April 29th?

2. Here's a link to their recent show on Fallon for their upcoming album, featuring the hit Monomania.
quote:

Atlanta’s art-rock/noise-punks/fantastically-awesome-weirdos Deerhunter returned to the spotlight with a huge and intense “freak out the squares” performance on Fallon last night. Bradford Cox wore a wig, appeared to have recently lost some fingers (this is part of a new persona called Connie Lungpin… or Bradford has finally lost it) and staggered out of the studio while the band jammed on the end of the song.
“Monomania” itself is five fantastic minutes of fuzzy, distorted punk that is uniquely Deerhunter and makes me somehow even more excited for their record of the same name, which is out May 7th via 4AD. The band recorded the album in Brooklyn and has said that the “avant garde rock record” was influenced by everyone from The Ramones to Bo Diddley to Steve Reich.
For people shocked by this, Bradford once responded to a heckler’s shouts for “My Sharona” by bringing the man onstage, demanding he get naked and then playing the song… for 55 straight minutes ( LINK)

Anyone 'round here enjoy the following albums?
Microcastle
Halcyon Digest
Weird Era Contd.

I would love to see Deerhunter at the Moon. Very jealous.

The iTunes Live from SoHo album is also really good and has songs from Halcyon Digest on it.

I've been wanting to see them live for a couple of years.

I'm also a huge fan of his solo act, Atlas Sound. Wonder how much longer he'll live.

Cox's method of creating music is stream-of-consciousness, and he does not write lyrics in advance.

Bradford Cox Shocks Audience in Minneapolis, Covers "My Sharona" for an Hour
Wears ski mask, tells audience to remove clothes and pick up chairs, dedicates show to "the death of folk and the birth of punk"
quote:

Deerhunter and Atlas Sound mastermind Bradford Cox has never been one to restrain his feelings. "I need punk rock," he told Pitchfork last year. "I am not an indie rock musician. I don't even know what the frick that means."
That attitude was on full display Friday night, during an Atlas Sound show at the Cedar Cultural Center in Minneapolis. In a report for City Pages, writer Sally Hedberg noted that "things felt a little awkward" from the beginning, when Cox took the stage with his face "concealed by a menacing, black ski mask."
After performing selections from 2011's Parallax and a cover of Beat Happening's "Youth", Cox then, apparently, went totally and blissfully insane, while heeding an audience member's request for the Knack's 1979 power pop single "My Sharona". He presented a cryptic and noisy rendition that, according to Minnesota Daily, lasted for a full hour. "I am a performance artist," Cox said. "I must play what you want to hear."
"It morphed into something bizarre," City Pages wrote, noting that he was joined by the night's openers, Frankie Broyles and Carnivores, for "an unending cover that rivaled the length of a Phish concert." He ordered the man who asked for the song to take the stage and strip down to his underwear, and repeatedly stated that "this is what happens when you make requests."

Check out the following link for a good read:
Deerhunter Really, Really Dislike Morrissey And The Smiths
“This is not an article about Morrissey, as much as he'd like it to be, as much as I'm allowing him to permeate the air with his foul and fey musk.”

The guitar player, Lockett Pundt, has a solo career under the name Lotus Plaza. I'm going to listen to some now and try to find Deerhunter's debut album, Turn It Up Fagg*t.

There's not a song on Halcyon Digest that I don't like but that one is also on the live in SoHo album. Great song.

Surprised at all the love they get on PT.

The previous week his father had lost 2 fingers in an accident with a saw.

He figured if his father had to lose 2 fingers, he was going to bandage his up in solidarity.

Just read the Buzzfeed article and watched the live performance on Fallon.

Now I'd like to catch them live. Also doing more homework on Lotus Plaza, which I only knew a couple tracks of prior.

Although PT is very negative in general they are on point with music, especially when compared to this board.

Not going to the show, but they're pretty good. I prefer Black Lips out of all the late Atlanta bands.

Also, the album Bradfors Cox put out as Atlas Sound is top notch, Walkabout is a banger.
