I am not that experienced of a concert ticket buyer but something does not seem right about the pre-sale tickets

1) Yes, you can purchase tickets before the general public, but are there only a limited number of seats available in various sections?

2) Is it better to wait for the public sale to get better seats when all seat sections are available for purchase?

What has been your experience with concert pre-sales?

I've always been able to get floor tickets through the presale without any problems.

I think other than floor tickets (which usually start about 5-10 rows back), most presale tickets are in predetermined sections. I bought some a few years ago for the George Strait/Reba show in New Orleans using a presale from my AMEX card. I was one of the first to buy and I got stuck in lower bowl corner. A few other friends did the same and they were in corners as well.

I don't think there is a huge advantage in presales anymore, unless you do a VIP package. I bought the Troubadour VIP package this year for George Strait/Martina McBride in NO.

every code and concert is different and i hate that theres no way to know in advance. ive seen some big shows with 2 to 3 to 4 different presale codes - certainly each negotiated different sections and policies with the promoter.

some use it for premium seats, some are just... meh, and you would be better off waiting for a shot in the general sale (but in a big show that will sell out in minutes you risk being worse off potentially just from the shear volume that moves in the first 30 seconds).
