I am currently having trouble finding an internship for the summer. I had two opportunities fall through and now I am left with less than 2 months to lock down a solid internship for the summer before my final semester.

I have applied through careers to geaux (LSU's recruiting website) and now I am going through the daunting task of emailing each company my resume and cover letter one by one. I feel like I am just spinning my wheels at the moment. Any tips on where to find internship listings or how to stand out from the crowd?

What discipline? It's awfully late to try to get something for this summer (I assume you know that being a senior).

I took the shotgun approach to applying for internships the summer before my graduating semester. I applied mostly through my college's career center, but as well as applying online at the website of the companies I wanted to work for. Well in the end, I didn't get a job at any of the positions I applied for. About a month or so left of class, an email from the school came through about a position with a start up off campus. I responded and got the job which ended up being valuable experience for the 7 months I worked for him.

The story had gut wrenching twist for me about 3-4 months later. As I was revising my resume for full time positions, I learned that I had typed the wrong phone number on my resume. I put the wrong damn phone number on my resume
To this day I will blame that for not getting an intership with the companies I so badly wanted to work for that summer.

Anyways good luck to you. And I got my full time job through my school's career center as an fyi

Yea I had two opportunities for the summer. I turned down one to accept the other. I was recently informed the firm is cutting back and will not employ any interns this summer so I am left with nothing as of now. The company I turned down has all of its positions filled but I am on stand by if anyone decides not to work.

That sucks. Best you may be able to find at this point is a student worker position. If I was you I would contact LTRC and see if they may be able to hire you on. I worked at the Pavement Research Facility back when I was a student, and turned that into a co-op, which I used to get my full time job now.

Ask professors if they have industry friends that need an intern. That is how I got mine.

Online applications and through lsu proved worthless to me with a average GPA.

Try construction companies too.

Ltrc was great experience for several friends in school.

I have gotten two interviews through them but didn't get the jobs.

This is what I'm thinking I have the best shot at. I worked for a construction company last summer. I am currently interning at an engineering firm now but none of the experience seems to help much.

Why don't you just keep working for the same firm you are now?

That was the original plan. That's the same company I had a summer internship with. Right now I'm on as an intern for the spring semester.

Not in engineering but concept still applies, I applied to 20 actuary internships and got called back from a few for phone interviews and no further action.

Administrator at the university I worj with in SGA told me his neighbor is an actuary. He is VP and corporate actuary. He has the HR woman email me for a resume and sets up interview with hiring manager. I get dinner with him a week later and he says "You will hear back from (blank) in a day or two" I receive an offer letter the next day.

Point being, milk connections like crazy and find people. Look on linkedin for people in civil engineering. My buddy got an internship by messaging people he didnt know on linkedin
