i want to see the stats... you mean all 13 other schools are ahead of us, some that never sniffed Omaha in that time period?

What about Theriot, Fontenot, and Wilson?
Posted on 4/2/13 at 8:44 am to Bosco2579
Beat me to it Theriot? Wilson is still a free agent I think.

He brought in crap, but it isn't because he recruited crap like you said. The problem was exactly opposite what you said; he recruited kids that were too good.

that's the same as recruiting crap. as a college baseball coach, you have to be able to manage your recruiting and focus on guys that have a realistic chance at actually going to college. smoke never did that. it's pointless to get a bunch of guys to commit that will be drafted in the first 10 rounds out of high school.
Thank you. I was thinking this very thing. Recruiting one player you expect may not play for you and concentrating on others who likely will is OK, but when you recruit unsignable players year after year and are left with good (I hesitate to say crap, because they were still better than a whole lot of players out there) but not elite level players filling up your scholarships, that's on the coach and is bad recruiting.

Read article the other day that Theriot is content to walk away from baseball unless he gets everyday job as 2nd baseman. He is free agent and Frisco wants him back but as reserve/utility infielder and he does not want to do that. Has 3 young children and wants to be full time dad. He is 33 and could accept and offer from a number of teams but on his terms. Does not want to be part timer.

yeah I watched a long interview with him where he says that. he said he's not going to go somewhere where he won't start. said that he knows there are guys out there who don't mind sitting on the bench and collecting a paycheck but that he doesn't feel like he's really doing his job as a baseball player if he's not actually able to contribute to the team as an every day player. something along those lines at least. his real issue in finding a starting job is that he's a liability in the field, which is a big problem for a middle infielder who is a one dimensional hitter.

as to the OP, having a bunch of players in the MLB is nice and everything but it's not very indicative of the type college program you have. last year the college program with the most players in the majors was....Long Beach State with 12. not sure if that's the case this year, but Long Beach hasn't been a very competitive program in about 10 years and hasn't been to Omaha since 98.

We can make excuses all day. He did not put much talent in LSU uniforms. That's recruiting like crap regardless of the excuse.

I'm pretty sure Mitchell and Matt Clark are close to being called up. That 09 class will have a few or more make it soon. Not worried. Mahtook won't be too much longer either.

Bingo!
I'll take 6 CWS rings any day over numbers in MLB.
And I also prefer to have a great college player like Eddy Furniss who wanted to be a doctor instead of a pro ball player.

maybe but, It's still nice to see players from LSU play when you're watch MLB games.
Posted on 4/2/13 at 11:20 am to LSUTygerFan
That's actually kind of low when you consider all the talent Vandy and USCe have had lately.

Clark is 25/26 years old and far from a prospect at this point. He is playing for Padres who may use him a call up if someone gets hurt but he won't make it as an every day player.
Mitchell has to show he can hit at the minor league level. He is athletic but between Double and Triple A he hit under .240 combined but had nice OBP at around .350. It would be next season before he got a real look
