Bjl....you seem to be fighting an uphill battle here.
You keep saying you are doing this out of the kindness of you're the only one who sees this at a problem.
Maybe you should reassign these efforts to figuring out how to make the current rules work for you better
shite...you've had the best player in the league for 5 years (and the second best for 3 of those 5) and you couldn't make it work. The problem seems to be you.

Or it makes you more unlikely to trade it.
i traded my first 4 picks this year. i dealt my 1/2 late for a big package that put me in the finals with a chance to win. if i had the guaranteed #1 pick, i still would have done it this year. i needed to be able to deal those picks to compete for a title
last year i had the #1 overall pick (anthony davis) and another 1st in a package for love. same concept
the year prior i traded an early 1st and westbrook for durant
i don't value high picks as much as i value players. even when i sell out, i use those picks to package for better keepers. redd acquired a ton of picks and rebuilt his team into a title contender this year. rick did as well.
toula doesn't really trade picks, and he has gone beast mode 2 years in a row
we have different philosophies, and the ability to trade picks is a large part of that divergence. i like how different teams value things differently, and it allows for a lot of activity during the year. i think that's a good thing
i'm not attacking you, i just don't agree with your premise

The problem I see isn't inability to compete.
It's that teams quit too early, and the rules incentivize them to do so.
You guys make valid points.
This league can be better.
Help me address that problem

What does the nba do to remedy this problem?
Oh yeah....nothing

i think this is a matter of realism on the parts of owners. i'll use me as an example again
before i dealt my 1/2 to will, i was all but guaranteed a spot in the playoffs
i could either make that last move to have a chance at the title, or just give up knowing i couldn't win it all
if i didn't trade my 1/2, i was giving up...just at a later date. how is that any better in the construct of winning titles? sure i would have made the playoffs, but i rick or redd (who had established themselves as the best) would almost assuredly win
the teams who sucked the first 1/3 - 1/2 of the year know their team had no shot. why do we want to prevent them from stocking their team for net year? i mean i could see your argument if it wasn't possible, but rick/redd showed this is a viable long-term strategy
basically, why do we want to incentivize teams to not better themselves for titles, and just resign themselves to a fate of possibly making the playoffs and losing in the first week? what that does is create a top tier who are unlikely to be de-throned until their stud keepers fade

we would mimic the NBA for sure if we restricted pick-trading
i used to post about this all the time when the hornets were good. we weren't built to win a title, so what was the point? the rockets are a really good recent example. they were either at the 8th spot or just out of the playoffs, with no chance of drafting a super stud to improve their franchise. they were stuck in the doldrums
i like having a system that allows shitty teams to build up their teams for tites like redd/rmc did this year. there is no way either team would have been 1/2 in the standings this year if they hadn't accumulated picks last year

What the NBA does isnt really apples to apples. 2/3s a roster doesn't change over every year.

I didn't have 3 of my first five picks fwiw. I just drafted like I had a clue.

you're going to take assists, and you never know what can happen with steals (like last night)
Posted on 4/7/13 at 2:00 pm to SlowFlowPro
well your 3-game disadvantage is all but made up and i'm still +7 in steals and tied in dimes
I CAN TASTE IT

So glad rick or redd didn't win the ship.

I'm only down seven points, and can still catch FGP. I'll probably sub out my two U spots for the two guys on my bench if it looks like FGP is feasible.
Still a longshot, but I ain't dead yet.

Port, can you send me Rondo's $100 as my winnings?
