youtube ... do a search for a particular song lesson you want to learn, or search for beginner guitar lessons. There's a lot of stuff out there that can help. You may find that a particular instructor in a video that you like. subscribe to them and search their lessons.
Take lessons man, at least for a month or 2 to get technique and the basics down. Teaching yourself is possible, but lessons are much quicker and you'll have less chance to develop bad habits that will impede your playing down the road
There are plenty of chord charts online and check out [link=(www.ultimate-guitar.com)]this website[/link]. You can learn to read tab, its really easy, and learn how to play songs. When I first started I learned a bunch of AC/DC songs because they are all really basic and use the same chords.
Start off with the basics of learning major and minor chords. Play along with simple songs to get your timing and rhythm down. Once you have that move on to the more complex chords and scales. I stopped with the lessons after about 6 months when I realized my teacher just wanted me to play rhythm while he did an hour long solo.
If you're just starting out and want to learn some chords and get comfortable with playing rhythms, just learn G, D, Em, and C. Those 4 chords, used in different combinations, will have you playing along with a lot of sings in no time.
