Payton is such a master of coachspeak you'll never hear the straight skinny to the press (ala Vitt). Since he has been reinstated I have sensed beneath the usual lines that he does have a fresh approach. It's not a starting from scratch but there can be fresh perspective. That is, what was the make up and characteristics of what made this team from '06 to the SB? What is different now? What from those teams was better than now?

I'm expecting a rougher training camp with Payton lighting a little more fire under the troops. Wouldn't be surprised to see some statement moves as well. Remember a 7th Rd Hofstra player sending a former 1st Rder down the road (Stallworth)? Remember PT23 outting a 4th rd pick at the same position? Don't be surprised if a player out of nowhere supplants an established name that has gotten a little fat or sloppy.

FB, TE, RB. A few trick plays here and there where he could throw it. Why not?

Hear ya but just not this year. With the lack of depth and needing so many new young players to play defense it would seem to be a luxury.
I love Tebow and he's a great guy just don't know what he can do in the NFL.

So, a "letter" was sent to 31 NFL teams about Tebow and it hasn't been leaked to ESPN or any media outlet yet? Ok.

Like Drew Brees, Robert Meachem, Jeremy Shockey, and Chris Ivory?

How many of those guys were on the team in 2006?

God no. Like Payton said when we had Regge and the wildcat was the flavor of the month- Why would you take the ball out of your best player's hands? Do we really want Tebow throwing the ball when we have Brees at the helm? Our offense is good enough that we don't have to resort to gimmicks like that.

Did I say bench Drew? Did I say run any wildcat?

No.

I said a few trick plays here and there where he might throw the ball. I said he could line up at FB, RB, or TE. When once did I say to take the ball out of Drews hands?

Please actually read what your responding to before going on your rant.

Where did I say anything about benching Drew or running the wildcat with Tebow? Don't put words in my mouth becuase you came up with an insanely dumb idea. Maybe you should read before you respond.

To even suggest Tebow throwing one pass is completely stupid. And if he MIGHT throw the ball, obviously thats taking it out of Drew's hands.

If what the OP says is true, then Payton agrees with me, but hey, what does he know? Lets just go with what you say and run plays where Tebow MIGHT throw the ball. Excellent idea, man. Our offense obviously is in desperate need of the extra wrinkle Tebow would provide us with. The Saints obviously need the circus that comes with acquiring Tebow. Great idea.

We have one of the top rated FBs of the last couple years, no use there. We have 5 RBs better than him, no use there. We have a top 2 TE and just added Watson, no use there. And there is definitely no use for any plays where he MIGHT throw the ball.

Huh..
He is 6'3" 245, exactly what size do you think he should be??
Dumb, statement. Just the fact we are talking about Tebow I feel stupid, but if you are going to say something this uninformed I'm calling you out.
I hate the offseason...

I'm not sure I agree with this. If my memory serves me right, Jones only missed 2 games his 2 years at Georgia (Kentucky and Florida Atlantic). That's hardy an indictment on him staying healthy.

So you put Tim Tebow in the "size" comparison with someone say... Demarcus Ware or Victor Butler...when I said size I am implying he does not have the build or range to play OLB, and wether you hate the offseason or not, I can promise I stand by that statement with the same enthusiasm that I possess when I post anything else. I can say I do not believe I am as bad as some idiots on this board.

Why? Put Tebow in at halfback and run something like a halfback toss and give him the option to pass or tuck it. Again, I didn't ever once say put him at QB did I? I'm saying the possibilities are endless with him in the game and being utilized by one of the best offensive playcallers in the game. If you don't think Payton could find creative ways to use him, your nuts.

First of all, Tebow will never come here. This all obviously hypothetical. And why couldn't it use an extra wrinkle? What's it going to hurt? And do you honestly think there would be a circus here? It's given he's not challenging for the QB spot so there's zero competition there. As I've said 10 times, he would be a utility player.

Again. If you don't think Payton would find a way to utilize him efficiently, your nuts.

Man, surely you can't be serious.

You originally said
quote:

A few trick plays here and there where he could throw it.

If we are running plays where Tebow is throwing it, I don't know about you, but I consider taking the ball out of Brees' hands. Unless you propose an idea where they both throw the ball at the same time. Whether that means benching Drew, or running a wildcat, I don't know. I was trying to speak generally enough to where I didn't put words in your mouth, like you did for me.

Your reading comprehension is terrible, man. I was comparing the situation of running plays with Tebow, to when the wildcat was people and a lot of fans were suggesting we run it with Reggie. Once again, I never said to bench Drew, or to run the wildcat.

quote:

If you don't think Payton could find creative ways to use him, your nuts.

I must be outside of my box then, because I don't think Tebow is better than anything we have at FB, RB, TE, or QB, and obviously Payton doesn't either. Once again, I'll chose to side with him.

quote:

And why couldn't it use an extra wrinkle? What's it going to hurt?

What's it going to hurt to have Tebow throwing the ball as opposed to Drew? Or running the ball as opposed to PT or Ingram? Or catching it as opposed to Graham? I don't know... Maybe a shot at the playoffs and our dignity.
quote:

And do you honestly think there would be a circus here?

Once again, Payton does, and I'll agree with him.
quote:

Again. If you don't think Payton would find a way to utilize him efficiently, your nuts.

Again, I must be outside of my box then.

Sorry for rustling your jimmies by disagreeing with you. Have a Happy Easter, man.
