Why is the Final Four such a big deal?

It may be more for marketing purposes because of the alliteration of the phrase, but I've never understood the importance placed on making the final four. No other sports league puts so much emphasis on a semifinal round as the NCAA tournament. No one cares as much about how many NFC/AFC championship game appearances or conference finals appearances NBA coaches have, so why is so much weight placed on the "Final Four?"

Honestly, why would I give a shite if you made it to the semifinal round? To me, it would be far more important and marketable to list championship appearances. What say you, MSB?

So being one of the last four teams out of around 330 is not a big deal?

Your team would have to get there to understand.

Because those four teams made the last weekend and are the winners of each regional.

Its single elimination sudden death tournament with 68 teams. It has built in drama and excitement that makes for fan friendly , tv friendly watch.

The fact that it is extremely difficult to play 5 games in which you play and coach your absolute best is what draws me into the tournament each year. Every team that makes it to the Four has some very gutsy performances to get where they are.

This. The five-day delay between the quarterfinal round and semifinal round puts the focus on all four teams.

Seems like it's a pretty big deal to get to the College World Series or a BCS game and there are more than 4 that can claim that every year.
