The more I read about Haswell, the more I'm leaning toward waiting until IB-E. But then there's the addiction factor, which will cause me to get Haswell now and IB-E next year.

To upgrade my CPU now would be a very superficial needless upgrade. It's not the bottleneck for anything. I do think that my crossfire overclocking could benefit from a better motherboard, and I would not want to upgrade my mobo without upgrading to a new socket (worst decision I ever made a couple years ago was replacing my dead 1156 mobo for my i5).

How do you know your mobo is hurting your gpu overclock? Reviews and forums?

Same here.. I was planning on buying a Z87 XPower or MPower. The performance isn't there... I'm just waiting for HOPEFULLY SEPTEMBER our 4960Xs are coming.

Well, for starters it's only dual x8 in crossfire, so there's a small margin of performance to be gained there (negligible or significant, depending on the application), and this motherboard (P8Z68-V pro) was more of a mid-grade board for its time. I have no solid evidence that my specific motherboard is holding back my xfire performance, but it's a valid enough theory. Generally OC performance is an issue of current, and that's handled by the voltage regulators. Lower end motherboards can't sustain that higher current compared to higher end motherboards, which will effect the current pullable by the pci-e slot.. which I believe is about a third of its overall power draw.

So, in theory, a better mobo might give me more MHz on the same voltages.

One thing I need to research thoroughly are the differences/upgrades in PCI-E on 1150 and 2011.

Well frick. I thought I had the 650ti sold on Amazon. The motherfricker has been stuck pending since Friday. He contacted me on Friday asking about it and if it came with all the accessories. I told him yes and I negotiated the price to 100 with shipping for him. Which is fine but his money didn't go through and I don't want to flip the bill to El Salvador, that's right The fricking Salvador. I'm not really that mad. He's also a hardware vendor and just looking to flip and resale, so frick him.

So keep your fingers crossed for me. I forgot I was part of a B2B site that allows small companies like me to buy overstock, refurb, salvage, and customer returns from big companies like Amazon, Best Buy, etc.

I am the current leading bidder at $400 with 45 minutes to go for the following:

quote:

Sapphire Radeon HD 7870 GHZ OC 2 GB DDR5 DL-DVI-I/SL-DVI-D/HDMI/DP PCI-Express Graphics Card

Gigabyte AMD Radeon HD 7870 2 GB GDDR5 DVI-I/HDMI/2x Mini-Displayport PCI-Express 3.0 Graphic Card GV-R787OC-2GD

ASRock LGA1155/DDR3/SATA3 USB 3.0/Quad CrossFireX and Quad SLI/A&2GbE/ATX Motherboard Z77 PROFESSIONAL

AS Rock LGA1155 DDR3 SATA3 USB3.0 Quad CrossFireX and Quad SLI A GbE ATX Motherboard Z77 EXTREME4

It's all customer returns which means there COULD be something wrong with them but the notes on the auction didn't say anything and they usually do or they just list it as salvage.

I figured I would roll the dice and see what it's like and see what happens. If I win I need to get a cheap LGA1155 chip to test out the MOBOs. I have everything else needed for a spare build to test them out.

It ends at 8:15AM so hopefully no one comes in and snipes my bid at the last minute.

Not entirely sure yet. I will sell the MOBOs for sure and I will sell one 7870 for now. Maybe sell the other one down the road. I can get enough for those 2 MOBOS and 1 7870 to have the other 7870 free or pretty close to it.

I ended up winning the auction. $415 with shipping. I just paid for it so hopefully it ships out today.

Let me see how this first transaction goes before I do. I would hate to recommend something and someone loses money from it.
