I might order 5 of them. I get them for $80 if I do and used ones are going for $110-$140 on eBay and Amazon. I can get a little more for a refurb.

I would only want a 990fx, so I could get some better OCing out of it with a fx series chip

What is it about the 990fx chipset that makes it a better overclocker for FX chips vs. 970? And does this apply across all FX architecture? Is it more of an issue with 125W TDP chips vs 95W?

I plan on getting this computer

LINK

I feel like everything on the computer is adequate but the power supply is only 300W. I need more than this so I plan on using this power supply to upgrade it.

POWERSUPPLY

Can anyone tell me if this powersupply will fit and perform with the desktop I listed. Also if it does not, is there any suggestions as to what similar Watt power supply will work?

Thanks
..

Dude, do you know how much better of a PC you could build for $900?

Sorry but that thing has junk components in it outside of maybe the i7 and I imagine that is the 3770 and not the 3770K.

ETA: Even that power supply too damn high for what it is.

I know you are limited to shopping at Best Buy but man...

ETA: If you did get that I could go cheaper on the PSU as you don't need 850W and get an upgrade on the GPU.

Yeah I'm limited by best buy. Even pricing it out and building my own through best buy is hell of expensive.

But the processor is good, the Hard Drive is good and the 16GB of memory is more than enough for Rome 2. The power supply though is extremely limited that's why I want to upgrade it. I'm going to give the graphics card it comes with a chance before I upgrade it.

I guess if I find out the power supply is good to go, what other critical piece should I upgrade after that?

I want the 850 W because I'm going to be running my 47in TV as the monitor and I want to make sure I have adequate power.

Look, before you order that email me and I will work something out with you. I have plenty of spare parts laying around, good spare parts too and not junk, that I think I could put you something together more optimized for gaming and then you could just get a video card with your Best Buy card to finish it off.

To repay me you can order me something off of Best Buy as well. Consider me helping you a wedding gift from a fellow Tiger fan.

I have to run right now to check on and do some work on a few of my rental houses but when I get back we will talk more. Just please don't waste $900 today before we do.

k_13_s@yahoo.com

That's the email I check most often so send it there so I won't forget this evening.

TV draws its own power so this doesn't matter.

Your budget was $1000, right?

Well, you can get all of this from BestBuy.com for $982. You would be paying a premium for it all vs what you can get the same stuff for at Newegg but you don't really have a choice if you are limited to just using your Best Buy card. This will run circles around what you posted above. You could even save $100 by getting the 2GB 650Ti Boost and it would still be 100 times better than what you posted.

Others here can maybe add or take away from it for you but I am already late as it is so I threw this together for you really quick.

Mobo - Asus - Desktop Motherboard - AMD 970 Chipset - Socket AM3+ $88.24
Memory - Corsair - Vengeance 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 SDRAM Memory Module $74.99
Case - Cooler Master - Elite 430 Mid-Tower Chassis $49.99
PSU - Corsair - CX Series Modular CX600M 600W ATX Power Supply - Black $76.99
HDD - WD - Mainstream 1TB Internal Serial ATA Hard Drive $79.99
SSD - SanDisk - 128 GB 2.5" Internal Solid State Drive $107.45
CPU - AMD - 3.80 GHz Processor - Socket AM3+ $125.99
DVD - Lite-On - Super AllWrite 48x Write/32x Rewrite/48x Read CD - 24x Write DVD Internal DVD-Writer Drive $21.88
GPU - EVGA - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 2GB GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 Graphics Card $299.99

$982 shipped and then torrent a copy of Windows 7, get you a decent Keyboard and Mouse and have fun gaming on a PC you won't need to upgrade for a few years unlike that one you linked.

So ordering all that I will have everything I need to put the PC together? Let me ask what happens when I turn it on if I don't have an operating system on it? Never built a PC before?

The 990fx chips usually have better power phases and have the updated bios for the fx chips. It basically the z87 board for amd

I KNOW what you mean by this.. but others might think it is a 1 for 1. Simply you meant it is the latest chipset by AMD.

Z77 and especially Z87 are leaps and bounds ahead of 990FX in features.

BTW, my first 2011/X79 board is here with my first Z87 iTX board. Have been too busy all week and didn't get a change to open the box. I might return the MSI X79 and wait for the new ASUS Deluxe.
