What type of ram would you guys recommend? I'm currently running:

G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 12GB (3 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory

I know it's not top of the line, but it seems to be high end for consumer..

Whats wrong with your ram now? Also what do you do exactly on your PC?

You can't use triple channel ram on z77... you need dual or quad channel

Really? So I'm basically running on 8GB? Awesome.. I'll probably upgrade sometime in the near future.. I don't have to now, you know I just upgraded to a 7950.. and I don't do a million things at once on my computer - so I'm sure I'll be fine for now.

other than being 3 sets and not 4... is that memory pretty good? I mean.. all I do is run the Witcher on max settings etc.

nothing.. I'm just going to upgrade to 16GB at some point in the near future, figure if this ram is good - I"ll just buy one last 4GB to finish it off

8gb is all you need for gaming. It's actually overkill because you will rarely use more than 4gb most likely, but it's so cheap to get 8gb you might as well.

That 12gb ram is pretty good. Ram is ram so as long as it has good speeds (1600, 1866) all sticks are basically the same

1600

yeah, I just wanted to make sure 1600 was good

P.S: I do photo editing on my laptop usually.. with my recent upgrade I will be moving Photoshop, Indesign, etc. and my Video editing software over to this computer - so ultimately the more ram I have the better.. I just wanted to make sure 1600 was a good speed.

1600 should be a good speed considering the price you pay for it. I never notice an improvement for higher ram speed unless I was benching.

Sapphire 7970 $298 after promo code and rebate: LINK =

Of course, not even close to deal Stout got. But the 7970s are making their way into lower budget build territory. For 1080p, it's definitely the best card to prepare for next gen ports.

They keep trying to tempt me. Right now I think I am going to look for a new graphics card and 1440p monitor around the new year.

At that point, you'll have your choice between 9000 series or a price reduction (hopefully) on the GTX 700 series.

I'm interested to see where the prices are for the 700 series then. I know maxwell is supposed to hit in 2014 but I don't know how soon. I will have to decide then. This is assuming I do it then, I may wait till I get my tax return. That's how I bought my pc

IMO a little overpriced since it is Ivy Bridge and middle of the road Fermi. Not even a new Kepler GPU.

EDIT:
Still not a "terrible" price but you could probably do better by forking out 200-300 more bucks. There is a pretty measureable gap between MOBILE Fermi and Kepler based GPUs.

Finally finished up "activating" my OS. The 1TB HDD is recognized in BIOS but not in Windows, going to look at that tomorrow.
