no video in the second pci slot as well? looks like a DOA card.
however the PSU may not be supplying the correct power needed to the card and the motherboard may be defective as well.

does the computer POST? (do you get a post beep or if it has an LED display do you have any error codes)

It does not, although I'm pretty sure I put a speaker in there for one.

I think I am going to buy all new. If it is better quality then I don't want to cheap out on it so I will go with the new RAM.

So are we sticking with your original build or should I go with the extreme 3 motherboard?

Also, if I wanted to bump the RAM to 16 GB would it be compatible to where I can just get 2 8GB? If these two changes can be made could you update the PCPartPicker to make sure I get the correct ones? I don't want to buy something that isn't compatible. Thanks.

16GB isn't necessary, but if you want to spend the money then I would definitely recommend 2 8GB sticks.

Also, get the extreme3. I'll let him update PCpartpicker since he made the first configuration.

Another option is that I'm selling my i7-2600k and ASUS P8Z68-V pro mobo. It will outperform that Haswell because the Evo will be capable of taking it to higher clocks with far less heat.

Edit: $220 shipped for both. That's how much the CPU is selling for on ebay alone.

make sure the post speaker is properly installed, then try to boot the computer with no RAM installed at all. if you get no warning beeps from that you have a defective board.

May be a stupid question but I did it the first time I built but do you have the vid card in the correct PCI slot?

I forgot which board you have but make sure it is in the top PCIE slot. It's a 2.0x16 or 3.0x16 depending on the board you have.

The very first time I built I had no idea what I was doing and I was pissed because I had no signal and was certain I did everything correct. I had plugged my card into a x4 slot and it was enough power for the fans to spin but not enough to actually run the GPU so I had no signal even though I had power.

So today I have been working to refurb some mobos I bought. Everything was going great and I had successfully changed out two Arock Z77 Extreme 4s and they all checked out great on my test bench. I was pretty pumped it was going so smoothly now that I know what I am doing.

I am working on the 3rd board of the day and I get the old socket all changed out and the new one soldered on. I go to move something while it was cooling off to get my test bench ready for this board and I knocked a pair of needle nose pliers right onto the pins of the socket I just changed out. FML

I gave up for the day at that point and will have to change out the socket on that board yet again tomorrow.

I got to go somewhere, but I plan on staying up pretty late tonight to try and figure this out.

PCPartPicker part list: LINK
Price breakdown by merchant: LINK /
Benchmarks: LINK /

CPU: Intel Core i5-4670K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor ($199.99 @ Microcenter)
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler ($29.99 @ Newegg)
Motherboard: ASRock Z87 Extreme3 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($127.99 @ Newegg)
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory ($64.80 @ Newegg)
Storage: Samsung 840 Series 120GB 2.5" Solid State Disk ($94.99 @ NCIX US)
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 760 2GB Video Card ($249.99 @ Newegg)

Power Supply: Corsair CX 600W 80 PLUS Bronze Certified ATX12V Power Supply ($63.98 @ Newegg)
Total: $906.72
I would consider saving money and buying his cpu/mobo. The performance gain to Haswell isn't large.

It's worth plugging into the mobo and seeing what happens. Although if you aren't getting a post then it sounds like the mobo or psu to me.

And in this case, the 2600k may even outperform the 4670 at stock due to hyperthreading. This won't affect gaming at all, just applications that take advantage of it.

Passmark score is higher on 2600k than the 4670k too actually. Yeah, I know, it's just passmark. But it's relevant to general use.

Which means it may actually perform better with FSX

True dat. I know a lot of folks have used the 2700k in FSX builds, which is essentially the same chip, just an extra 100MHz stock. But they both overclock extremely well.

This isn't the first build request I've seen here that revolved around FSX. I'm curious about it. Is it for hardcore pilots only, or is there actually a game element to it that can be learned without actual flight lessons?

Our IT guy at work built a pc for FSX so I will have to ask him. He actually has an app on his ipad that is a control panel for it too. He said he learned to fly with it and then the first time he went in the air the instructor let him fly. He said he wasn't smooth but he knew exactly what he was doing.

what sort of machinery do you use to do the socket change outs?
also, how do you know all the board needs is a new socket?

ive never looked much into that stuff. for our purposes at work it either works or it doesnt. if it doesnt work, get a new one.

Hey guys for a+ certification are the online courses worth it? I saw they are expensive and I figure just getting a cheap book on amazon would be good enough.
