AMD is offering discounts to GTX 970 owners

If Freesync delivers as consistently and reliably as promised for less than the cost of Gsync, and the 380X is a bug-free launch that crushes the 980 at all resolutions, 2015 will be a good year for AMD.

NVIDIA mobile Gsync driver leaked

They were able to get an alpha version of a driver-only gsync solution to work on an ASUS notebook. I have a pretty good idea of where that's headed, and it only means cheaper monitors with variable refresh rates.

I am sure this has been posted before, but I just wanted to share. Was looking through the best case mods of 2014 and this is my favorite.

Alright I'm back for more help.

I finished my build and everything is working great -- except for my WD Caviar Black. I've got it hooked up to my PSU fine and the data cable isn't broken (it works fine with my SSD). I can feel the hard drive spinning, but it's not being recognized by my BIOS or device manager.

Any ideas?

I like those open wall mounts. One that really impressed the hell out of me was posted on r/gamingpc several months ago. The guy had someone machine a custom mount that he designed in Autodesk Inventor for a somewhat small form factor build. The reservoir and some of the tubing runs are actually built into his mount.

He not only modeled the custom block, but also the entire build using Inventor and Blender:

The model:

The actual finished build:

More pics of the build

Yeah, that's custom gold plating on the RAM heatsinks and GPU block:

I can imagine the total cost of this was astronomical, but from a design standpoint it's one of the most impressive builds I've seen.

You need to initialize it and format it in Windows disk management.

Thanks! Would you mind walking me through exactly how to do that? Or point me to a link that does?

start > type disk management > click "create and format hard disk partitions"

The Disk Management window will open and probably tell you that you need to initialize a disk. If it's just a 2TB or less HDD, initialize it as MBR.

You'll then see a list of of your connected disks. Find the one with "unallocated" space. Right click and select "New Simple Volume" and it will walk you through formatting and such.

Awesome -- I'll try that and see what happens. Thanks!

You know if you want to just make money from this shite I'll play middle man and do the billing and collecting for you. You can just stay at home in your bathrobe and rake in the dough all day.

Given all of the bugs in FC4, we can call it even.

How do I setup multiple monitors to where my main one I can play games on and do whatever, and then do whatever on the 2nd one?

I've tried AMD EyeFinity but that is a confusing mess, just extending the displays in the control panel does basically what I want, other than everything opens on my main display.

I want to be able to play my games and what not on my main 1440P display, and then if I want to browse Chrome or YouTube or whatever else I can use the 2nd monitor for that while gaming on main. Anything I open as of right now just opens on my main display, whether I click on it on 2nd display or not, pops up on my main.

ETA: Wait, do I just drag it to my other display and that's it?

I've read through most of the build your own guide ( to you sir)

Would you guys still recommend building a rig over buying one for someone who knows next to nothing about computers and mostly only plays wow? I'd be open to getting into other games of course. Is it something I could build in a weekend once I get all the parts in? I'm tempted to build my own but I'm scared to jump in.

Yep, that's it, use catalyst to arrange the monitors how you want (dictates where you have to move your cursor to access the second monitor). I have a dual-monitor setup too. 1440P for games and most main work tasks, and then a secondary 1080P for whatever (usually just more screen space for me to drag windows while I'm working). Sometimes I use it to watch a movie while gaming.
