Wide Receiver concerns

With all the emphasis on defense during FA and in the upcoming draft, are we really set at wide receiver? Is Toon the heir apparent to Devery Hendersen or are we hoping to pick up an overachiever in the later rounds? I am all in for LT at the #15 and hopefully a veteran, backup QB in FA. I hate to miss out on another pass rusher at #15 but our need on the OL has become a higher priority thanks to our FA pickups. I just hope we can address WR sooner rather than later. How do WR's stack up in the draft in the later rounds where we're picking?

No?
Morgan is.
Toon is a Colston clone.

You're kidding yourself if you think we are just going to roll with those 4 + Andy Tanner. With CSP's obsession with substitution packages with all the WRs, RBs and TEs, I look for us to add another WR in free agency or late in the draft.

Toon remains the BIG unknown in our WR corps. That's why I posed the question.

Some of you are being dicks. The OP has legit questions.
Toon, like others have said, is more in the Coltson mold. Morgan is our speedster now.
WR is a weird position for us. It's not as emphasized like it is in other offenses. We use a lot of screens and passes up the seem to the TE's. Our WR have to be good blockers as well as have good hand. They have to be unselfish and run full speed when they know the ball isn't coming their way.
We definitely could use some more talent at the position, but it's not something that's gonna make or break the offense.

People complained last year about WR play. Colston is getting older, and Toon is still up in the air on how well he'll play. He could potentially replace Colston. Morgan had a bunch of really good plays last year, but a deep route WR is only as good as the rest of his fellow receivers and the running game.
Graham is a huge threat over the middle when paired with Colston, with both of them being injured they weren't as lethal as usual. Of course CSP being out was a huge factor on the balanced offense. When you can't run the ball your receivers will find it hard to separate. I don't care who you have in your WR corps, the problem starts with being able to run the ball.

Wat
Morgan says hello to that role.

I agree about the concerns. I think Toon and Morgan have great potential, but it just unknown at this point if they will reach that potential. I think the reason Thomas was released and Watson was signed (besides Thomas' concussion issues), were to give us another receiving threat. I think we'll be find with what we have, but I definitely share the same concern.

Patrick - he asks a decent enough question and all, but then says this
what is there to address? its hard to take it all seriously when you read that.

What is there to address? Improve the talent. Plan for the future now.

You're right. Morgan would take Devery's place. Age and injuries in our WR corps along with Toon as an unknown entity are my concerns. You can't argue with Drew's production and ability to spread it out to RB's and TE's. We just become more predictable when injuries affect Graham and Colston. Are there any WR's in the draft that we may want to target in the later rounds? BTW Who Dat Fan, I'm sorry we don't have enough psych units in this city to accomodate you.

Does anyone else besides me think we could end up resigning Devery?

I think it's a strong possibility after the draft.

i can see your point Patrick and can agree with your statement - but i think that what we need this year kinda trumps worrying about a receiver. i think the core we have now are good for a few years more, so no need to necessarily work about that position this year.
next year, i can definitly see the argument.
