Trade Back?

Does anyone think they trade back to possibly pick up a second round pick?

To trade back means someone really wants to trade up. We are not at the most ideal spot for a team that wants to move up.

We should sticky the trade back threads.
1. Your team must have no one on their board left thats rated higher than their pick.
2. You must have a dance partner.

49ers 2nd 1st round pick and late 2nd round pick actually equal within a few points of our 1st. Our best bet is someone who wants a WR as Austin and Patterson are projected to go right after us.

So we get one true starting OLB in FA and you guys think we should trade back? No way, I think they get the best OLB available and invest in the position for the future.
Reasoning:
1) Butler has a dynamite 2 years with us. When free agency hits in 2015, he commands top tier salary. We either let him walk or we pay him. Considerations of this example: Graham (if franchise tagged next year) is up for Free Agency and probably concerned about getting a long-term deal. We'll have to pay potentially two franchise players the same year, could get tight due to the back-loading of current contracts.
2) Butler doesn't live up to the hype, and he sucks. We spend the greater part of 2 years never being able to lock down the most important position in the 3-4.
If we get a OLB in this year's draft, we'll be better positioned for the future in both of those two examples. Yes, I know we have a lot of good players projecting to the OLB position. But they will be taking a huge risk by not picking up a true pass rushing OLB when there are so many available in this year's draft.

Exactly. Butler probably wont be a long term solution. He is more of a bandaid right now. We need to use this time to start grooming a OLB

While I agree with this, we have a lot of holes to fill on our defense, as well as a few on O. We need some playmakers on rookie contracts and trading back would net us these. A late first and late second could be a starter and a solid backup/situational starter.

Gallette and Wilson could be ready to go at that point. Plus there is talk about that Southern Miss LB and our interest in him. Not sure where he is projected though.

Unless it is with either Minnasota or San francisco I don't see the benifit of trading back.

Best way to improve a defense is to get to the QB. In a 3-4, that's the OLB position. The draft is a bit of a toss-up, regardless of when you get to pick - but I'd rather them go for more of the "sure thing" at that spot. Again, yes, we have holes in the defense that I'd like to see repaired. But a strong pass rush is a bad secondary's best friend. I think the Lewis signing was a good investment in the secondary as well.

WR: They still drafted Toon last year. I still think he was a good pick and will likely work out. But Payton is a genius at finding diamonds in the rough on offense.
Backup QB: Liability not to shore up this position. If Brees goes down it's pretty much a bumpy road for us no matter what.

Correct...
If a player is available that a
16-32 team wants 15 is not that bad a place to trade up to. Not top ten money and still enough quality to be worth something to the right team. JMO

I think we stand pat and take BPA, especially if one of the big three OLB/LT are there. Our OLBs are all unproven so i don't see them passing up an elite prospect if they are still on the board at 15.
