Wild Hog Round UP 2013....the good and the bad news.

Well gents (and the few ladies here) I am sad to say that I will not be competing in the contest this year. The rules have made the contest even more biased this year toward one particular team and there is no chance of winning first place. Additionally without being dishonest there really is no chance of winning second place. Sadly third place payout is so low that it would not cover the cost of corn and fuel much less ammo.
I will however be trapping an killing hogs on our lease and on ome adjacent land over the next several months. In an effort to further everyone's knowledge of different firearm and ammunition performance, I will be video taping my hog killing exploits and using some of the carcasses for target practice. I will also try to post some videos of other educational issues concerning hog trapping and processing if y’all have interest.
The lack of participation in the contest of course opens up spots for fellow OB'ers to come in and help eradicate the walking pork chop population here. If you are interested in some offseason hog hunting, especially if you have a kiddo you would like to get into the sport let me know.

As do I...it needs to kill something, you know...since these rifles do stuff like that on their own.

The 7.62 is faster moving, not as accurate (in 99% of platforms), more energy, and much louder. They are both good rounds. I own both but only hunt with the 300BLK.

Mail both 300 blackout Ar's here to me and I will turn them lose on the lease. We can have our own contest to see which "assault rifle" will kill the most pigs. Winner gets a new home and loser gets mailed back to original owner.

7.62x 39 is a hog killing SOB. Wolf 124gr JHP from a Yugo SKS may have accounted for dozens of hog murders in these parts.

I love how much the 300BLK is getting. Its not like I have had mine for long but I was worried that it wouldnt take off. I knew that it wouldnt die because of ease of making the rounds and compatibility of ARs.
Now, it is full steam ahead and will make manufactures ramp up production and even create new products. Wolf was supposed to be making bulk brass target ammo in 300BLK, but this was before last year. I assume its been put on the back burner but will hopefully be resumed soon.

Oh, the 7.62 kills just fine. I just choose accuracy over a little bit more energy. Nosler 125 BTs work just fine on medium to large game. I hear that Barnes 110 are even better, but I am not going to pay $3 a round right now.

Send me your wife as a deposit and we can talk.

Agreed, glad I can take the time and get a build exactly right while I wait for the round to become available.

I love to hear how the biggest flaw of the 300BLK is that its effective range is 350-400 yards. My response is typical and expected, what AR with a M4 barrel do you trust enough to hunt with past that distance?
Any further and I switch to a 300 WSM.
I need a new stock. How rare are they, havent looked lately.
Thread hijack over, back to hogs.

Back to piggies, still need a place to hunt. Located Northshore.
