I don't think Caldwell is due a raise. If anything, this is the first year she has been worth her current salary.

You don't want a base salary that's above 250k really, because of tax purposes. As someone else mentioned, Miles' base pay is lower than both.

This is for tax purposes.

The rich play a different game than us.

What about TV revenue for LSU? I really don't know which sport brings in more.

I would guess that the SEC women's bball TV contract (which includes Tennessee) brings in a good bit more. The Women's NCAA tournament as well, and we have a bunch of credits there.

Nah...
LSU baseball vs LSU womens basketball

One sport everybody loves, the other nobody gives a frick about besides some weird old ladies and those few geeks in the student section.

Nah...
Yes. Caldwell is a black female and Mainieri is a white male.

If true, how does this money compare to revenue from ticket sales? Is this the reason she makes more..

And FWIW, Manieri is one of the highest paid college baseball coaches in America. I'm sure Caldwell is paid nicely, but her salary doesn't approach the highest.

Why should a coach that coaches a sport averaging about 2500 tickets sold a game make more money than a coach that coaches a sport averaging nearly 10,000 tickets sold a game?
LSU is the oddball in this case, they don't set the market values. A mediocre engineering professor makes more than an excellent english professor, even though some schools really like their english departments.

She won fewer regular season games than last year (her first at LSU). She had the same conference record but finished two spots lower in the standings than last year, again, her first at LSU.

Literally the only thing she's done better is get one round further in the tournament than she did last year. If she's worth her salary this year, she was worth it last year also.

Let me start by stating that I 100% agree LSU baseball is a much bigger sport at LSU than LSU WB. Now for all you who seem to get off on belittling those of us who like and follow and support WB, SB etc., no need to read on, your macho IQ's make you better than the rest of us, I am honored you even read this far, thanks for playing.

However IMHO, LSU baseball is the excepetion in a sport that many schools do not care about, lose tons of $$ in and thus the overall salaries are lower. PM should be one of top paid coaches in the game..and he is. NC should be paid somewhere in the 15-30 range of all programs and she is about 11th (some schools do not report, but this is pretty close I think). I am NOT convinced NC is taking us to where we were after 2 years but based on the "market" for WBB she is not overpaid by much. In other words to compare the two is apples and oranges because the sports are compensated very differently.

The female part means a whole lot more than the color. They are trying so hard to make women's sports more popular. I just can't really see them catching on to the extent they want them too.

Because everyone gets raises every year except when they thought Les was going to be thrown out.

This. ^^^^

But the premise of the original thread is stupid. Who cares if Mainieri's salary "eclipses" Caldwell? Why is that relevant? As long as both are winning and bringing "shine" to LSU, why should any of us worry about comparing their compensation? IT. DOES. NOT. MATTER.

As secman12 pointed out, the more relevant comparison would be comparing each of them to their peers in their respective sports, not to one another.

I have no idea what college baseball coaches are paid but I do know the top women's basketball coaches are paid well over $1 million. In fact, Geno Auriemma (the top coach) just signed a new contract worth over $2 million/yr. Caldwell doesn't even make half of what he makes. Kim Mulkey makes just over $1 million.

What's more popular nationally, women's college basketball or men's baseball?

I'm sure it's pretty close.
