LSU Baseball is off to their best start since 1997 and Nikki Caldwell has led an injury-depleted team to the Sweet 16.

Looks like they are both in line for raises, which will keep Nikki's salary above Paul's.....

Is this the way it should be? What say you?

What are their base salaries now?

And anyway, 'base salary' is not the true measure. Total comp, including radio and TV income, is the best measure of how a coach is valued.

Ummm, doesn't a women's basketball coach typically get paid more than a baseball coach? I'm pretty sure that's the case.

When Crowton was here and made like $375k, he was the highest paid state employee. Miles' base may have gone up since then, but it's not very high at all.

Why should a coach that coaches a sport averaging about 2500 tickets sold a game make more money than a coach that coaches a sport averaging nearly 10,000 tickets sold a game? Seems there is more money to be lost if the baseball team tanks than the women's basketball.

Because it's based on the market. Could Manieri go coach college baseball somewhere else and be paid as well? Likewise for Caldwell?

What about TV revenue for LSU? I really don't know which sport brings in more.

And FWIW, Manieri is one of the highest paid college baseball coaches in America. I'm sure Caldwell is paid nicely, but her salary doesn't approach the highest.
