57th in tackling as a linebacker??? For the defensive player of the year?? bullshite.

Minter is 20th, btw.

I don't even think this is the stat that really matters. If you want to get the really telling stat, start going through the number of missed tackles per game.

Thus, I bring you exhibit A:

And Exhibit B:

Now, in his defense for Exhibit B, he is at a disadvantage because his eyes are on the side of his head.

Another question we must ask ourselves, how well does he take on a lineman? The right guard makes him eat shite in Exhibit C:

According to scouting reports from credible sources, Teo's lateral range and size are superior to Minter's. These two factors along with Teo's productivity over the duration of his entire college career seem to account for Teo's mock draft position. I'm sure the fact that Teo was a Heisman finalist, played for Notre Dame, and appeared in the NC game also play a role, despite being completely irrational and irrelevant. I'm obviously biased as a Tiger fan, but I believe Minter will be an excellent NFL LB. I'm praying the Bears find a way to select him as Urlacher's heir apparent.

Look at how Minter played against bama versus the way Teo played against bama.

Minter had 15 tackles for loss on the season playing in the SEC. Teo had 5 tackles for loss with a weak scheduale.

If some team picks Teo ahead of Minter it will be because of the owner. No one who knows football would take Teo over Minter.

Really the only argument he had was seven interceptions, which was tied for second among all defensive players.
And if you go back and look at his 7 interceptions, About 3-4 were either tipped into his hands or was just a terrible throw by QB. It's not like he was making spectacular plays on defense. And keep in mind he was usually playing bad teams with a bad offense.

But at the same time, Im not saying he is a bad player. I think he will be a good NFL linebacker. But I will agree and say the hype he received (heisman finalist) is a COMPLETE joke.

I think Te'o falls on draft day due to question marks on his abilities, and ESPN will report that it is due to question marks about the gf business.

Or, does a team, from time to time, choose a player that will sell tickets or increase tv ratings.

I think the Saints did it thrice:

Ricky Williams
Mike Ditka as a coach
Reggie Bush

All 3 were picks designed to sell Season tickets (which they did), but none laid the foundation for a winning team.

Like it or not, hype and pub can be a factor in selecting a player.

The problem with that logic is that those were offense players, which is usually the case. Nobody buys tickets to watch a mediocre linebacker miss tackles and point to the heavens at his fake dead girlfriend looking down on him.

Honey Badger might actually be one of the few defensive players that would bring a boatload of fans to a game.

If Te'o doesn't play for ND, Bama, USC, Ohio State, Texas, Michigan, Florida or Oklahoma...

No one would know who the frick he was or know about his fake girlfriend. No Heismann consideration...NOTHING.

The Te'o speculation as a high pick makes no sense. The guy with the better stats usually falls lower than someone else because the other guy has great measurables and/or immeasurables.

But Teo has neither. His size, strength and speed aren't separating him from Minter, and the off-field stuff should drop him below people he's otherwise equal to.

Like someone else said, he's a product of the hype.

How many times did we see this happen to Minter?

Good grief man. So Te'o got pushed back and pancaked on 1 play? You don't think that ever happened to Minter? Plus, that clip must be from 2 years ago since they played Michigan at night this year.

Look, I love Minter and am biased towards LSU guys. But he's not the next Ray Lewis. He's not as fast. He gets washed out of plays and gets caught in traffic a good bit too. He's not spectacular in coverage either.

Te'o and Minter are pretty good LBs, and will both play in the NFL. Neither will be great NFL players in my opinion.

Minter was great but can you say he ever saved a game in a critical moment like that? They probably think he's a better playmaker than the other LBs...

Have to look at competition...when Te'o played SEC competition (Gumps) he did nothing

well there's more to competition than just that one game. the dude started most of his 4 years (and had 100+ tackles in his last 3), there's a lot of tape to look at.

and by no means am I saying he should be a lock as a 1st round pick, and I don't get how he was a Heisman finalist, but he was a pretty productive LB.

I have alot of respect for both guys. I have to admit i was really on the Teo bandwagon for a lil bit. I was rooting for him. Almost over 100 tackles each year in college. Not to mention Notre Dame played some amazing defense especially on the goal line. I picked them to win over Bama. Then they made me eat my words. Teo was Lacy and yeldon's bi*ch that night. And apparently he was somebody else bi*ch for the whole fake girlfriend scandal.. So all in all Teo will be a decent linebacker, not sure if i see greatness. I believe minter should be picked higher. I see him having a very productive nfl career as well. Good luck to both of them though

False. Did you see the ND-Bama? They were horrible. Their big fatass DT got manhandled all game. The whole defensive unit was a joke.
