Directv-What to Do When Rebates Run Out?
Posted by northLAgoomba on 3/27/13 at 2:52 pm00
I got DTV a year ago. Now that my rebates have run out, my bill went from $70/month to $158/month.
Does anyone have advice/experience in lowering their bill? Can you renew any rebates?

Call and tell them you want to switch to someone else, they should give you some retention deals

Drop your service to a lower channel package.

You are probably under contract for another year. I looked into it when Cox went up. I would save 400 over the course of the two years on the total, but my discount for bundling with cox makes up for that. Its pretty much even in cost for the package that I carry. I'd have to get rid of channels to lower my bill.

Were you aware the rebates would run out after the 1st year?

Directv contracts are for 2 years. Drop some packages and get to something manageable like $90-100. Then switch to Cox or Uverse for a couple months and take advantage of new subscriber deals. Then you can switch back to DTV and get new deals again.

When my discounts/rebates ran out i just dropped down to a lower tier package. i only subscribe to HBO (& showtime) for a month or 2 at a time. I watch what i want on hbogo then drop it. When you call, don't just say you want to cancel anything. Call and tell them that you want to cancel unless there is a better offer available. A lot of times the reps won't outwardly offer anything unless you ask. I have showtime right now for like $3-4/month b/c of this.

This. When I first got DirecTV, the agent on the phone actually told me to do this every year. It has never failed to come through.
