School Bans the word ‘Easter’

quote:

Boys and girls at an Alabama elementary school will still get to hunt for eggs – but they can’t call them ‘Easter Eggs’ the principal banished the word for the sake of religious diversity.

quote:

“Kids love the bunny and we just make sure we don’t say ‘the Easter Bunny’ so that we don’t infringe on the rights of others because people relate the Easter bunny to religion,” she told the television station. “ A bunny is a bunny and a rabbit is a rabbit.

how dare they pervert you're religious holiday of remembering when jesus was brought back by a giant rabbit that had found enough eggs to raise the dead.

I don't know, I got both and I can't get eggs out of either one of them. I've been out of eggs for three months now waiting for the easter Bunny to deliver a fresh batch.

I have been tempted to eat those BIG turds that have been coming out of my chickens, however.

Meh.

I prefer Resurrection Day to Easter anyway.

But interesting that this happened not in some liberal outpost, but in suburban Huntsville, Alabama.

This appears to be a private school (from what I can tell). Therefore, my caring about this story has dropped to zero.

I thought the Easter Bunny and the egg thing was the way they commercialized another religious holiday and made it secular

I'm not quite sure how Eostre fits into this story though.

I would have been with you if it were a private, but its public.

No different than all schools/gov. offices/town centers switching from Merry Christmas to Happy Holidays. Both still include gift giving characters - Santa and a Bunny.

So...does it matter? Easter and Christmas are obviously now associated with a Christian holiday/festival...and not everyone is Christian. Church and state...making sure it's neutral or a non-religious observance. More bunny, less resurrection.

So Christian kids shouldn't be allowed to call them "Easter Eggs" because of this?

ETA: just read the whole article...the quoted part was misleading. principal just banned teachers from calling it that and even admitted he was just being "overly cautious"

they can call them whatever they want. The school cannot call it an Easter celebration but they aren't going to be rounding up kids for saying the E-word.

thats not what easter is about? I'm jewish and slept through religion at catholic school.

So basically people are getting mad because they took the religious aspect out of the completely irreligious (or even pagan religious) aspect of a holiday.

Yea, see my edit. I read the quoted part where it said the "kids couldn't call it..." but then when I read the whole article it's apparent that wasn't accurate.

I don't really have a problem with this after reading the whole article. Principal just going overboard to be cautious basically.
